Anthony Davis hasn’t had a pleasant start to the 2025-26 NBA season due to injuries that have limited his availability for the Dallas Mavericks.
However, he has finally made a significant step in becoming more active for the franchise as the season progresses. Notably, he was available for the second night of a back-to-back against the Houston Rockets on Saturday.

Anthony Davis’ Progress in Injury Recovery
Davis is in the 14th season of his All-Star career and his second with the Mavericks. He joined Dallas in a blockbuster trade that ended his six-season tenure in Los Angeles, where he was dealt for Luka Doncic. Since then, he has appeared in only 18 games.
Injuries have prevented him from staying on the court consistently. A quad injury kept him out for most of last season, and a calf strain sidelined him significantly this year.
Davis returned to the court in late November and has been available for Dallas since. However, his offense has been inconsistent, putting up just two points in a blowout loss to the Oklahoma City Thunder.
Despite that, having him on the court is beneficial for Dallas, especially on the defensive side of the ball. He also made significant progress in showing his form. He took part in his first back-to-back for the team since returning from the calf strain.
In the nine games Davis has played, he averaged 18.6 points, 10.4 rebounds, 3.3 assists, 1.7 blocks, and 1.1 steals per game. He shot 49.3% from the field, including 35% from beyond the arc, and 70% from the free-throw line.
What Lies Ahead for Davis and Mavericks?
It is excellent news for the Mavericks to get an update on Anthony Davis’ status. Seeing him take part in back-to-backs — something he wasn’t able to do due to his injuries — is a big step forward, as long as he remains healthy on the court.
In the meantime, Dallas looks to recover from its slow start to the season. The team currently has an 8-16 record, holding the 12th spot in the Western Conference standings. They are 1.5 games above the Los Angeles Clippers and two games above the Sacramento Kings, while trailing the Utah Jazz by one game and the Portland Trail Blazers by 1.5 games.
Following their matchup against the Rockets, the Mavericks will prepare for their next game. They will host the Brooklyn Nets on Dec. 12 at 8:30 p.m. ET, then play a road game against the Utah Jazz on Monday at 9 p.m. ET.
