Al Horford was one of the names backing Luke Kornet for his criticism of the Atlanta Hawks’ “Magic City Night” promotion for their game against the Atlanta Hawks.
Kornet took to social media, calling out the team for naming the theme after an Atlanta-based strip club, which became famous for its mention in hip-hop albums. Kornet’s take drew some mixed responses from fans on social media.

Earlier, San Antonio Spurs big man spoke up against the theme night, stating it would “reflect poorly on us as an NBA community, specifically in being complicit in the potential objectification and mistreatment of women in our society. Horford posted a simple message in response to Kornet’s post, saying, “Well said Luke.”
“It didn’t really represent what I know myself and a lot of others throughout the NBA felt. So think I did this, I want to make sure that part of the discussion is expressed, and it comes with people’s criticism and stuff like that, that’s part and parcel why people might be hesitant to do so,” he added in his detailed request to the Hawks.
“We desire to provide an environment where fans of all ages can safely come and enjoy the game of basketball and where we can celebrate the history and culture of communities in good conscience. The celebration of a strip club is not conduct aligned with that vision.”
In his latest, CBS Sports’ Brad Botkin said the Hawks will continue with the event despite Kornet’s plea. The Hawks named the night to celebrate Atlanta’s “iconic cultural institution Magic City.” Kornet’s take came after the team’s press release outlining its plans for March 16 ahead of its skirmish against the Magic.
This season, Kornet has been a key piece of the Spurs’ success. The reserve big man has been a vital contributor coming off the bench, averaging 7.0 points and 6.5 rebounds. His efforts have played a part in the team’s scintillating 44-17 run this season as they take second place in the West.
As for the Hawks, the addition of Jonathan Kuminga has led them to a promising surge, winning three consecutive games to finally hit the .500 mark at 31-31. They are tenth in the East, and gunning for a play-in spot with 20 games left in the regular season.
Up next, the Hawks play the Milwaukee Bucks on the road, while the in-form Spurs host the Detroit Pistons, marking the first of their six-game homestand.
