How Long Has Hackett Coached Rodgers?
Hackett first overlapped with Rodgers on the 2019 Green Bay Packers, joining Matt LaFleur’s initial staff as offensive coordinator. LaFleur has called plays for the entirety of his Packers coaching tenure, but Rodgers has been notably close with Hackett during their time together.
Following Hackett’s demotion, Rodgers defended Hackett, calling him “one of my dearest friends in the league.”
How Has Rodgers Performed With Hackett?
Hackett has been on Rodgers’s side for five of the last six seasons, with the exception of 2022, when Hackett was Denver Broncos head coach.
In that span, Rodgers has been one of the best quarterbacks in the league. He’s thrown 70 touchdowns to 12 interceptions, a 5.8 touchdown-to-interception ratio that leads the NFL. His teams have also gone 29-9, good for a .763 win percentage that ranks first among qualified passers in that span.
His capstone moments were in 2020 and 2021, when Rodgers won back-to-back MVPs with Green Bay. Those were his third and fourth MVP trophies, respectively, which trails only Peyton Manning (five) for most MVP awards.
What Was Hackett’s Record As Denver Broncos Head Coach?
The Broncos hired Hackett as head coach before the 2022 season, forming a duo with newly acquired quarterback Russell Wilson. While Denver received plenty of preseason hype as a potential Super Bowl contender, the Hackett-Wilson pairing became one of the biggest bellyflops in recent NFL history.
The Broncos went 4-11 before Hackett was fired after Week 16. Denver’s offense was a disaster, ranking last in PPG (15.5) and 30th in EPA per play (-0.11) at the time of Hackett’s firing. Wilson suffered through the worst season of his career, posting career worsts in touchdown-to-interception ratio (16-11), completion percentage (60.5%), and EPA per play (-0.12), among other categories.
Wilson would receive one more year in Denver under Sean Payton before being released as a post-June 1 cut this past offseason. Wilson counts $53 million against the Broncos’ salary cap this season as a dead cap hit and will count $32 million against their cap next year as well.
