NASCAR’s first-ever visit to a location outside the U.S. in the Next-Gen era is coming at a turbulent time, with political tensions running high between the U.S. and Mexico. The visit is shining a spotlight on the Mexican community while some of their members face unrest on American soil.
The unrest has even taken over social media, with several fans voicing their disapproval of NASCAR visiting Mexico. Despite the noise, NASCAR insiders have rallied together to appreciate a landmark moment in the sport’s history, and they have now received support from former F1 figure Will Buxton.
Will Buxton Joins the NASCAR World in Appreciating the Mexico Series
Daniel Suarez has played a dual role as a driver and cultural ambassador to strengthen NASCAR’s connection with the Mexican community. He was instrumental in bringing the series to Mexico, with Bubba Wallace applauding his Trackhouse Racing contemporary for the same.
Despite NASCAR’s major efforts, a significant part of the community has been extremely vocal on social media about their dissatisfaction with the sport’s visit to Mexico.
Given all the noise, Buxton joined several NASCAR insiders in the conversation to appreciate the “amazing track” and “incredible city.”
Taking to X, the former F1 presenter wrote, “Amazing track. Incredible city. Beautiful people. What’s not to love? Ignore the noise, have fun, mate.”

Not to forget that F1 has been a regular visitor to the Autódromo Hermanos Rodríguez since 2015, so Buxton knows a thing or two about the track and the nature of racing at the venue.
Notably, Buxton’s words come in response to a tweet by The Athletic’s Jeff Gluck, who revealed he had been receiving largely negative messages. Gluck added that it was particularly disappointing to see such texts, given that it was “exciting to be here.”
The NASCAR Journalist voiced the exact feelings of JR Motorsports’ Crew Chief, Aedan McHugh, who was torn between the contrasting takes on the sport’s visit to Mexico City.
The varying industry and fan opinions on the latest race led him to share that racing in another country was “one of the coolest things I’ve ever done in racing.”
Even the likes of (Bubba) Wallace are in for the ride in Mexico City, with the 23XI Racing driver opting to prioritize the overall experience over the race result on Sunday. He hopes to take away a lifetime of learning with NASCAR, opening up to a larger audience, which will perhaps be the sport’s gateway to global recognition.
Despite the dissatisfaction of some fans, the NASCAR Mexico series continues in full flow at the Autódromo Hermanos Rodríguez.
