As the 2026 IndyCar Series officially begins, Alex Palou’s dominance has drawn attention across the racing world, with Mario Andretti’s grandson offering a stark warning to the rest of the grid about the Spaniard’s current form.
Mario Andretti’s Grandson Highlights Alex Palou’s Unstoppable IndyCar Run
Marco Andretti, the grandson of legendary driver Andretti, took to X to express admiration for Palou’s current form while also suggesting the Chip Ganassi Racing driver could potentially dominate the entire season.
“Palou can literally win every race this year,” Marco wrote on X, highlighting the level of performance the Spaniard has displayed in recent seasons.
Andretti also reflected on why Palou’s success is particularly impressive in a series designed around parity.
“To me if there is a stand out team in F1 that is so far ahead of the others, that’s boring,” he explained. “To see a driver and team execute at that level in a mostly spec series is impressive to watch because it’s incredibly competitive and difficult to do.”
Unlike Formula One, where teams design vastly different cars and engineer technological advantages that can create large performance gaps, the IndyCar paddock operates with tightly controlled technical regulations. Most teams run standardized chassis and engines, making it far harder for one driver or organization to dominate the field.
Yet Palou and Chip Ganassi Racing have repeatedly managed to do exactly that through precision strategy, consistent qualifying performances, and remarkably race execution.
The 28-year-old driver has already built for himself one of the most impressive resumes in modern IndyCar history. Palou is a four-time IndyCar champion, having secured titles in 2021, 2023, 2024, and 2025, establishing himself as one of the most defining drivers of the current era.
His crowning moment came last season when he captured victory at the prestigious Indianapolis 500, becoming the first Spanish driver ever to win the iconic race. The triumph at the Brickyard further cemented Palou’s legacy and showcased his ability to win on the racing’s biggest stages.
Palou’s rise has not gone unnoticed by the sport’s greats. In the past, Mario himself has publicly praised the Chip Ganassi Racing driver, calling him a “generational talent.” Coming from the former Formula One champion and one of the most respected figures in racing, the compliment carried enormous weight.
Now, his grandson Marco’s comments add to the growing praise that Palou has elevated himself into a rare tier of drivers capable of dominating even the most competitive championships.
