Daniel Suarez Responds on Track as Spire Motorsports Rumors Heat Up

The result was not a win, but Suarez made his presence felt late in the race. He recovered from a difficult moment in the second overtime to charge back through the field and finish fifth.

Suarez lined up sixth for the final overtime restart, sitting third in the outside lane. His Spire teammate Carson Hocevar led the lane, with Ross Chastain running between them.

Things got messy quickly. Shane van Gisbergen got underneath Suarez on the backstretch and drifted up into him in Turn 3. It looked like his run was over.

But Suarez refused to give up. He found momentum down the frontstretch on the final lap and took advantage of Hocevar’s move on Bubba Wallace entering Turn 1. A strong run through Turns 3 and 4 pushed him back into the lead pack. He crossed the line in fifth.

“I thought we were in an amazing spot,” Suarez said after the race. He believed the outside lane had the tools to win. He pointed to a moment where he felt his lane partner did not fully commit to working together.

“I feel like we could have done a little bit better,” he said. “I felt that we gave that one away because we were in a perfect spot to execute.”

Despite the frustration, Suarez had plenty of good things to say about his new team.

Through three races, including the Clash at Bowman Gray and a test at North Wilkesboro, he has felt fast. That kind of early speed matters when questions are already swirling around your seat.

“These guys have something good going on,” Suarez said. “I’m very happy to be a part of this group.”

Spire Motorsports sits seventh in the points standings after the first two points-paying races of the season. That is a solid start, and Suarez knows momentum is building.

He is also looking forward. COTA is next on the schedule, and Suarez made it clear he cannot wait to get there.

“That’s one of my favorite racetracks and I know that we’re going to be in the fight once again,” he said. “The wins are going to come. But we have to continue to focus on the little things.”

Those words carry extra weight right now.

NASCAR insider Jordan Bianchi recently revealed that Spire could look to upgrade the No. 7 seat if Suarez struggles.

The names mentioned included Kyle Busch, a two-time Cup champion who races Trucks for Spire this season and is currently in a contract year at Richard Childress Racing.

Busch has not won a Cup race since June 2023 and has missed the playoffs in back-to-back seasons. A move to Spire could make sense for both sides if the opportunity arises.

For Suarez, the 2025 season was a tough one. Zero wins, two top fives, and seven top 10s at Trackhouse Racing led to his departure after five years. He cannot afford another year like that.

But Atlanta showed something real. He battled back from a bad situation, stayed aggressive, and put together a top five finish. That is the kind of performance that answers critics better than any statement ever could.
