After ESPN’s “3: The Dale Earnhardt Story,” this May, NASCAR Studios is launching its first unscripted project for Amazon Prime Video — a four-part documentary on American icon Dale Earnhardt Sr. From the makers of “Rush,” NASCAR Nation is finally getting its own version of “Senna” or “The Last Dance” on The Intimidator.
The series is set to premiere over Memorial Day weekend, coinciding with the debut of Prime Video’s coverage of NASCAR Cup Series races.
NASCAR Shares ‘Second Glimpse’ of Dale Earnhardt Sr. Documentary
As Amazon Prime and NASCAR prepare to kick off their new broadcast deal — starting with live coverage of the Coca-Cola 600 — the network has delivered a treat for fans with the reveal of “Earnhardt.”
Earnhardt’s son, the always-popular Dale Earnhardt Jr., will be directly involved in the production with Prime Video. The show will be a co-production between Imagine Documentaries, NASCAR Productions, and a group called Everyone Else, working closely with the younger Earnhardt’s media company, Dirty Mo Media.
Recently, NASCAR released a second preview, a 30-second video, giving fans a sneak peek of what’s to come in the new documentary. The makers of “Rush,” the critically acclaimed Formula 1-based racing film, Ron Howard and Brian Grazer, are also involved, with Prime Video listing them as executive producers.
Amazon is promising “unparalleled access and never-before-seen archival material,” likely made available by the Earnhardt family and NASCAR. In March, the studio dropped its first teaser trailer, featuring clips of the late legend both on and off the track, along with interview segments.
With the second teaser now out, it looks like the show won’t just be a standard recap of the seven-time NASCAR Cup Series champion’s career. According to sources, instead of focusing only on the elder Earnhardt’s racing legacy — which has already been widely covered — the series may shine a light on him as a father and family leader.
The docu-series will debut May 26 on Prime Video, marking Amazon’s official entry into NASCAR broadcasting. The streaming platform will also begin airing NASCAR Cup Series races, starting with the Coca-Cola 600 at Charlotte Motor Speedway during Memorial Day weekend, followed by four additional races this summer.
Amazon’s coverage will run from May 25 through June 22, ending with The Great American Getaway 400 at Pocono Raceway. The company has also finalized a deal with Dale Earnhardt Jr., bringing him onto its commentary team.

Please let me know when the series comes out
I really am excited to see the Dale Earnhardt series. He was the greatest of all Time nascar racers.
