Dale Earnhardt Jr. Names Three Modern Drivers Who Channel ‘The Intimidator’

Matching the late great’s capabilities is a near-impossible feat, even for his son, Dale Earnhardt Jr., a star in his own right who couldn’t quite replicate his father’s legendary success. While icons like Jeff Gordon have bested the seven-time champion, managing to outrun him on a number of occasions, no one in NASCAR ever loomed larger than Dale Earnhardt Sr.

That being said, a few modern drivers still display the same ruthless aggression that defined the No. 3 driver’s legendary career. Speaking during the promotion of “Earnhardt,” an Amazon Prime docu-series, “Junior” dropped a rather surprising comparison, “People are probably going to go crazy over this one, but (Carson) Hocevar little bit is kind of like the young Dale Earnhardt in a way.”

He elaborated, “Makes a lot of mistakes, ruffles a lot of feathers, but he is very fast, very aggressive.” While the 22-year-old Spire Motorsports driver certainly shows promise with raw speed and intensity, reminding the veteran of a young version of his dad, he still lacks the commanding presence and legendary aura that made Earnhardt an American icon.

“Ross Chastain reminds me a lot of dad, even Joey Logano a little bit, I mean, Joey, you know he gets a little frustrated when he gets run over but he’s one that put the bumper to him, he has run a few guys up the race track and into the fence to win races and that’s very much like dad. He was pretty aggressive, especially at certain points of his career,” he added.

The Trackhouse Racing driver, who has earned a reputation for his hard-charging style and no-holds-barred approach to racing, has certainly stirred the pot since his full-time arrival in the Cup Series. From late-race moves to high-profile daring run-ins, Chastain has become one of the most polarizing and exciting figures in the sport.

To conclude, Earnhardt also pointed to the reigning Cup Series champion, Logano, as another driver who embodies one of his father’s defining traits – the relentless ability to push competitors to their absolute limit, giving them the bumper treatment. In today’s NASCAR landscape, flashes of “The Intimidator” still exist, even if the full legacy remains unmatched.
