Cleetus McFarland Admits to Racing Mistakes, Ignores Internet Critics to Confirm Talladega Return

Cleetus McFarland admitted to four spins at Rockingham but dismissed internet critics by confirming his Talladega return.

After a high-voltage 4th-place ARCA Menards Series performance, influencer-racer Cleetus McFarland went on to climb into Richard Childress Racing’s No. 33 and rock the O’Reilly race at Rockingham. Even though his run did not go exceptionally well, the post-race interview shows something far beyond.

A learner never loses. McFarland might lack the skills of a hardcore professional stock car driver, but today it was clear that he will get there someday. He demonstrated maturity in his communication, showcased his personality, and broke down everything that happened in the race.

Why Cleetus McFarland Is Learning, Growing, and Will Dominate NASCAR Someday

The post-race interview looked great. McFarland owned up to mistakes, saw the silver lining, and the fact that he could point out all these things means he at least has an eye for error in the sport.

Noah Lewis from TSJ101Sports released the interview on X with the caption: “Cleetus McFarland climbs out of the car and celebrates that even though he struggled at times, they didn’t mess up anyone’s race and he learned a lot.” Simply could not agree more.

The very first thing he did when he exited the No. 33 was show gratitude toward the team that secured him this opportunity. McFarland said, “Thanks to RCR, obviously, for giving me this opportunity, definitely the hardest thing I have ever done in my life.”

He then started to break down the race results: “Qualified 33. Anyone knows where I finished?” Hearing someone from the crowd say the answer, he gave out a loud cheer, the good ole ‘WOHOOO.’

McFarland continued, “32… one position. How many times I spin out?” This time, his friend Squirrel McNutt, who finished 9th in the ARCA race, gave the answer.

“Four times,” he said. Picking up from there, a surgical dissection of the events McFarland went through followed.

“But, did I ruin anybody’s day besides my own? No, I did not. This is a hell of an opportunity, and obviously I got my a** kicked today, but I learned so much and made so many mistakes. At one point, I drove down on a guy who was inside of me, recovered from that, spun out early,” he said, talking about how things looked down.

Playfully asking his friend about a spin, he said, “What the hell was that? George, did you see that on Lap 3? I went 3-wide. I abandoned the whole plan of chilling, and I want 3-wide, spun out, got past that.”

Breaking down the remaining three spins, McFarland said, “The third one was just my own, went in the corner too fast. Then the fourth one, the guy below me hit me. That I will take only 50% credit for. And then, last one I think a guy hit me going into [Turns] 1 and 2, I was trying to stay out of his way.”

He then gave his race summary with a shocker: “All in all, I made a ton of mistakes, learned a lot, I hope to stay a whole lot out of the news than I did. But I got a lot to learn. You know all this internet talk, it’s got me thinking maybe I shouldn’t come back.”

Changing the emotions in the air momentarily, McFarland got the fans in his signature fashion: “Sike!!! See you guys in two weeks in Talladega.”

We do not know how his Talladega run will go, but we can be sure he is picking up the right things from the ARCA Menards Series. With lessons from the grassroots level of racing and mentorship from someone of the likes of Dale Earnhardt Jr. after the late Greg Biffle, McFarland will surely become a formidable force on the field. And this is not a verdict; it’s a conviction.

Is his JR Motorsports chance waiting, and will McFarland be eligible to drive when JRM enters the NASCAR Cup Series? Only time will tell.
