What to expect from tonight’s Bears vs. Steelers game?

The Bears have been pushing some teams as of late. Nonetheless, the Steelers’ pass rush presents a problem.

Pittsburgh’s gone back to basics

Things weren’t looking too hot for the Steelers to start the season. After an impressive second-half comeback in Week 1 over the Buffalo Bills, Pittsburgh dropped the next three games. On the contrary, heading into Monday Night Football tonight, the Steelers are now riding a three-game winning streak. Pittsburgh is again relying on the DNA of this franchise — defense.

The Steelers rank among the top 12 in many defensive metrics at this point in the season. They’re allowing offenses to produce 345.7 yards per game and 20.3 points per game. Pittsburgh’s defense has also wracked up 19 sacks, led by T.J. Watt with 8.5. While they haven’t intercepted many passes, the secondary has broken up 30 on top of their 2 interceptions.

However, the Steelers haven’t forced many turnovers this season. They have a -1 turnover differential and have only forced 6 takeaways. Nevertheless, Pittsburgh’s defense is shutting down drives.

In the past three games, the Steelers have held their opponents to just 16.3 points. Against Chicago, they’ll need their pass rush to pin their ears back and make things challenging for a rookie QB who has shown he can make things happen when he gets the time.

A two-headed rookie backfield for Chicago

While Justin Fields is getting all the hype, another rookie is standing beside him, putting in work for the Bears as well. With RB David Montgomery on injured reserve and Damien Williams still out, 2021 sixth-round pick Khalil Herbert is making the most of his opportunity.

The Bears have given Herbert at least 18 carries through the past four weeks. The rookie has cashed in his 78 attempts for 344 yards and 1 touchdown.

In Week 8, the Steelers kept the Browns rushing attack in check. Can they do the same on Monday Night Football tonight by slowing down a hard-running Herbert?

Pittsburgh’s defense does just enough to clinch the victory in Monday Night Football tonight, although Chicago’s offense finds some traction. Rookie RB Najee Harris does his thing against a Bears defense who was gashed by the 49ers’ Elijah Mitchell for 137 yards and a touchdown in Week 8.

Prediction: Steelers 24, Bears 17
