What to expect from tonight’s Rams vs. Cardinals game?
In their Week 4 matchup, Arizona took home a decisive 37-20 victory. Murray threw for 268 yards, 2 touchdowns, and RB Chase Edmonds added 120 yards on the ground. Meanwhile, the defense held things down on the other end, forcing 2 turnovers. Will history repeat itself tonight on Monday Night Football with the Cardinals hosting?
The Cardinals’ offense is back
After a slew of absences on the offensive side of the ball, Arizona is back and better than ever. WR A.J. Green missed Week 9’s game against the 49ers. Both Murray and WR DeAndre Hopkins missed Weeks 9-11 but returned against Chicago in Week 13.
Now heading into Monday Night Football tonight, Arizona has just three members of its offense on the injured reserve.
Despite winning two games in their absence, the offense looked much more lethal against the Bears than during Colt McCoy’s stead, which is to be expected. The chemistry between Murray and Hopkins is jaw-dropping, as evidenced by their opening drive fourth-and-2 touchdown.
Murray gets even more support from RB James Conner, who has scored 12 rushing touchdowns this season. The team is rolling with the NFL’s third-best points per game average (28.6). Los Angeles is not too far behind at 28 ppg, but Arizona’s defense has held opponents to just 18.7 points per outing.
Can the Rams pull things together tonight on Monday Night Football?
The Week 13 lopsided victory aside, the Rams have had a rough go through the month of November. Their 7-1 start has gone up in flames after losing three of their last four games. QB Matthew Stafford has been inconsistent as of late, and despite scoring a touchdown in the last two games, the Odell Beckham Jr. experiment has been underwhelming.
With RB Darrell Henderson Jr. on the reserve/COVID-19 list, Sony Michel takes over lead-back duties with Mekhi Sargent backing him up.
Stafford, Beckham, and WR Cooper Kupp will have to step up big tonight in Monday Night Football. If Los Angeles has any desire to win the division, those aspirations live and die with this game. Arizona is 10-2, and the Rams are 8-4. A loss for LA tonight puts the Cardinals three games ahead with the head-to-head sweep.
Despite a valiant effort, the Rams will be battling things out with the NFC Wild Card field. Arizona’s offensive edge is evident, and Murray and Co. have had things figured out more than Los Angeles. Arizona enjoys a nice two-possession win while getting one step closer to the NFC’s No. 1 seed.
