How Many Picks Do the Vikings Have in the 2025 NFL Draft?

Entering Thursday, the Minnesota Vikings have four picks in the 2025 NFL Draft. The only selection of their original seven comes in Round 1. They then have a third-round compensatory selection and two Day 3 picks they acquired via trades.

The Vikings’ Round 2 selection was used to move up from Round 2 to Round 1 in the 2024 NFL Draft in a deal with the Houston Texans. The Vikings then traded that selection from the Texans, along with their 2025 third and fourth-round picks, to the Jacksonville Jaguars to move up to select Dallas Turner last year.

Rounds 5 and 6 see the Vikings select twice, thanks to a couple of pick swaps. They got a fifth-round selection from the Cleveland Browns in return for Za’Darius Smith and sent sixth—and seventh-round selections to Cleveland as part of the deal.

The other pick swap came with the San Francisco 49ers in the Jordan Mason trade. The Vikings sent their fifth-round selection and a sixth-rounder next year for Jordan Mason and the 49ers sixth-round pick this year.

What Are the Vikings’ Biggest Needs in 2025?

  • S, CB, G, EDGE

The Minnesota Vikings had an excellent regular season in 2024 but could not back it up in the playoffs. They leaned heavily on their defense, which was the third-ranked unit in the league, though their offense more than played its part (13th). The problem for the Vikings this offseason is that they’ve had lots of turnover on both sides of the ball, with more potentially coming in 2026.

The defensive backfield was the unit most heavily impacted by free agency. Safety Camryn left for Indianapolis, while cornerbacks Stephon Gilmore and Shaquill Griffin remain unsigned. They did keep Byron Murphy and added Isaiah Rodgers, solving some of those concerns. However, they could benefit from another starting-level talent at cornerback.

Edge rusher is an area they could bolster behind starters Jonathan Greenard and Andrew Van Ginkel. Rotational end Patrick Jones II left in free agency, while Van Ginkel is in the last year of his contract. Harrison Smith and Josh Metellus return to form a potent starting safety duo, but both are free agents after 2025 as well (with retirement a real possibility for Smith).

Offensively, the situation is interesting because you could make the case that they need a quarterback. Sam Darnold is gone, but they have J.J. McCarthy under contract. They will likely bring in some veteran competition, but given they were set to roll with McCarthy last year, it would be a surprise if they do not head down that route in 2025.

McCarthy’s supporting cast does appear strong. Guard was their biggest need entering free agency, and the Vikings have addressed it by adding Will Fries and Ryan Kelly, ensuring they have new starting options at both center and guard for 2025. They could conceivably roll with Blake Brandel at left guard and have their starting five in place.
