It’s hard to say until everything is final, obviously, but the Vikings certainly found themselves in a fortunate spot to open the draft. With cornerback as their top need, sitting right at pick No. 12 meant they could get a top player on the cornerback board if they so desired. However, as the wide receiver run began, the Vikings cashed in and sent pick No. 12 and 46 to the Detroit Lions in exchange for pick Nos. 32, 34, and 66.
The Vikings then grabbed Georgia safety Lewis Cine with their new first-round pick at No. 32.
Minnesota Vikings 2022 NFL Draft Team Needs
It’s actually impressive to see how often the Vikings try to address cornerback and how perpetual their failures have become. That position may need more help than any position group in the NFL that isn’t the Atlanta Falcons’ receivers, and it’s not a huge gap.
The Vikings have gone heavy drafting super athletes on the offensive line, but sustaining blocks and creating drive to open rushing lanes has been an issue with the relatively light line.
And despite drafting cornerbacks seemingly every draft cycle, the Vikings still need help covering receivers on the outside. More than anything, they must figure out how to run the ball efficiently again. — Dalton Miller
