Mike McDaniel gets the comfort and serenity of South Beach as Miami Dolphins head coach.
With the pristine surroundings in his vicinity, one would believe the now third-year NFL coach is living wealthy and lavishly. It’s time to explore that theory by diving into the coach’s net worth.
How Much Does Mike McDaniel Make?
McDaniel’s play-calling and coaching have led to millions of dollars to his name.
How much? He’s established himself with a net worth of $5 million as the Dolphins coach. He’s helped spearhead two playoff appearances to earn that paycheck.
However, McDaniel didn’t reach that dollar figure right away. He had to sign a contract extension before the season to raise his earnings.
And he’s had to work his way up the coaching ladder to rake in that $5 million.
Past Roles McDaniel Held Before Earning Net Worth
While it appears McDaniel has had a quick ascension to head coach, he didn’t start as a play-calling genius.
His first-ever NFL job was as a ball boy for the Denver Broncos. And that was when Mike Shanahan was head coach and a young Kyle Shanahan was around the facility — long before the two would link up years later.
McDaniel was able to earn a coaching internship with the Broncos in 2005, which was after his playing career at Yale ended. He then served as an offensive assistant with the Houston Texans from 2006-2008.
He even had a brief stop in the United Football League in 2009-2010 with the Sacramento Mountain Lions, where he served as running backs coach.
McDaniel would re-link with Mike Shanahan and Kyle in Washington, where he worked as an offensive assistant and later the wide receivers coach. That was also during a time when current Los Angeles Rams head coach Sean McVay was on the coaching staff.
After stops with the Cleveland Browns and Atlanta Falcons, McDaniel finally got an opportunity to put “coordinator” on his resume by taking the run coordinator position for the San Francisco 49ers in 2017.
McDaniel helped create one of the league’s most explosive offenses that attacked teams with misdirection runs and play-action passes — leading to an NFC title in the 2019 season and a return to the NFC Championship game in the 2021 season. His coordinator work eventually earned him his first head coaching opportunity at 39 years old with the Dolphins.
Now, per the website Urban Splatter, he is the owner of a three-bedroom, single-story adobe located in Fort Lauderdale, considered one of the more affluent communities in Florida’s Broward County.
McDaniel has assurance that he’ll remain in Miami thanks to the multi-year extension he signed. He’s the first coach to deliver back-to-back playoff appearances for the Dolphins since the 2000 and 2001 seasons when Dave Wannstedt was head coach. Now, expectations are higher for him and Miami as the franchise hones in on championship aspirations.
