MIAMI GARDENS, Fla. — Miami Dolphins cornerback Jalen Ramsey was again missing from practice Wednesday, raising real doubts about his availability for Sunday’s opener against the Jacksonville Jaguars.
Miami Dolphins Practice Report
Ramsey (hamstring) has practiced just once in the last 3+ weeks, and while Dolphins head coach Mike McDaniel was confident two weeks ago that Ramsey would play in the opener, his tone was decidedly different Wednesday.
“I’m very proud of him,” McDaniel said prior to practice. “I’ve never been more proud of a player not practicing. Like honestly and no puffery. On the regular, the dude practiced both with starters and on the scout teams, did the entire practice, last year as he was coming back.
“He’s just making me proud because he’s showing some he knows how important he is to the team and what he’s looking for, to accomplish with the team as a captain.
“So, yeah, I think everyone was kind of impressed because, yeah, that’s a different headache, dealing with him trying to be on the field when he’s not supposed to.
“The human body tells us, I don’t really forecast that but I know he’s doing everything he can today and don’t want any setbacks today. So that’s where my mind lies.”
If Ramsey cannot play Sunday, second-year cornerback Ethan Bonner is in line to start. Bonner didn’t see a single snap on defense during his rookie regular season but did log 11 plays in the Dolphins’ Wild Card round loss to the Kansas City Chiefs.
More Dolphins injury news: Defensive tackle Calais Campbell, offensive tackle Terron Armstead, and linebacker Jaelan Phillips all did little, if anything, during practice.
McDaniel suggested Phillips will be on a snap count Sunday in his first game back from a torn Achilles he suffered last November.
