Maxx Crosby Reacts to Stefon Diggs’ Surprising Deal with the Patriots

Diggs’ contract stunned the NFL.

On Colin Cowherd’s podcast, Nick Wright ripped the deal, saying, “If you would have asked me, ‘Diggs is gonna sign, what is his deal going to be?’ I would be like, ‘I don’t know, man, 10% less than Davante Adams’ deal?’ $26 million guaranteed is a ****load of money for Stefon Diggs, who wears out his welcome, and I don’t know if he is good for Drake Maye.”

Crosby took a different tone. When asked about the contract, he said, “I like it. I like it a lot. I know Stefon personally. We got to spend some time here in Vegas with him. Been to a couple Pro Bowls with him. He’s a great dude.”

The four-time Pro Bowler acknowledged Diggs’ reputation but defended his character and work ethic: “I know he obviously gets a bad rap in some areas. You know how receivers can get. But he’s passionate, and I know people that’ve spent time with him, been his teammate — they actually do love him. He’s about ball, and I know he’s a worker.”

Crosby also shared optimism about Diggs’ fit in New England under new head coach Mike Vrabel.

“I think him being with Vrabel, and Vrabel being able to be in his ear constantly, I feel like is gonna be great,” Crosby said. “And the fact that he’s getting another chance to be a No. 1 guy is huge. And he doesn’t take that lightly. I feel like him being able to go to New England with a young quarterback — he’s gonna be itching to go out there and be at his best.”

In his own explanation for the move on Chris Long’s “Green Light” podcast, Vrabel said he’s “trying to make sure we’re supporting Drake [Maye] and supporting the football team.” The 2021 Coach of the Year called Diggs “a highly competitive, confident receiver” and praised his demeanor, attitude, and presence.

Crosby said he’s rooting for Diggs and the Patriots to bounce back.

“I think they’re doing it right, and I think they’re gonna definitely improve this year for sure,” Crosby said. “I like Diggs a lot. I think he’s a good player. I’ve talked to him a lot over the years, and I’m rooting for him for sure.”

Crosby and the Raiders will get a chance to see Diggs and the Patriots up close when they travel to New England for a regular-season matchup.
