In a down year for wide receivers, former Texas Longhorns WR Matthew Golden stood out as a solid prospect for NFL teams looking to bolster their passing attack. He’s turned heads with his speed at the NFL Combine and was selected by the Green Bay Packers in the first round.
Is Packers Rookie Matthew Golden Dating Anyone?
Golden isn’t dating anyone in 2025, based on public info. He hasn’t talked about being in a relationship or having a girlfriend, and seems locked in on football.
The Packers receiver is originally from Houston and was a four-star prospect out of Klein Cain High School, according to 247 Sports. He ranked 150th nationally, 25th among receivers, and 25th in Texas.
Golden began his college career at Houston, making an early impact with 38 catches for 584 yards. He set the Cougars’ true freshman record with seven touchdown receptions and finished second nationally among freshmen in TDs.
As a sophomore, he started nine games and missed three with an injury. He still managed 404 yards and six touchdowns on 38 catches. He also earned second-team All-Big 12 honors as a kick returner.
Before his junior year, Golden hit the transfer portal and landed at Texas. There, he broke out with 987 yards, 58 catches, and nine touchdowns. He played a key role in Texas’ late push to the College Football Playoff, especially in the win over Arizona State, where he posted 149 yards, seven catches, and a touchdown.
Golden declared for the NFL Draft and made waves at the NFL Scouting Combine by running a 4.29-second 40-yard dash. That time made him the second-fastest player at the Combine, behind only Kentucky cornerback Maxwell Hairston, who ran it in 4.28 seconds. Golden even beat out his teammate Isaiah Bond, who many had pegged as the fastest player in the class.
Golden’s All-Around Game Pushed Him Into Round 1 of NFL Draft
“In the 2025 NFL Draft, Golden is the most well-rounded receiver prospect,” PFSN’s Joe DeLeone wrote in his scouting report. “He combines fantastic athleticism with the ability to do all of the little things at a high enough level to carve out a role within an offense.
“Golden likely will never emerge as a primary target in the NFL, but he’s balanced enough to be a fantastic WR2 or WR3 on a team. His ability to create consistent separation with his speed or quick feet makes him a reliable target. He also made a number of highlight-worthy catches in his final few games of the season.
“Thanks to his balanced profile, Golden is worthy of being selected within the middle of Round 2. But because this year’s draft class is heavily lacking talented WR prospects, Golden could be selected as early as the end of the first round.”
All his pre-draft evaluations turned out to be correct as the Packers made the bold decision to draft him to help Jordan Love. He might make his NFL debut tonight against the New York Jets in preseason Week 1.
