The Houston Texans’ history of first-round NFL Draft picks is relatively short. Having only been in existence since 2002, they have only partaken in 20 drafts heading into the 2022 NFL Draft. They have had some reasonable success through the draft, but their philosophy has somewhat changed in recent years. Let’s take a look at the full history of the Texans’ first-round picks in the NFL Draft.
Houston Texans first-round draft picks in history
As it stands in 2022, the Texans have never selected a player in the first round who has gone on to be enshrined in the Hall of Fame. However, that is largely due to the extremely short time frame with which the franchise has existed. For the most part, the Texans have had some success with their first-round draft selections. As of the end of the 2021 season, the Texans’ first-round picks have resulted in 12 first-team All-Pro selections.
In recent years, the Texans’ philosophy towards the first round has pivoted. Since the 2018 NFL Draft, the Texans have made just one first-round draft pick (Tytus Howard). That will change in 2022, with Houston appearing twice in the first round of the 2022 NFL Draft order following the Deshaun Watson trade.
