However, there are some people that elevate the product even more, whether it be the broadcasters, camera crew, and so on. One of those people is Kathryn Tappen, one of NBC Sports’ most versatile voices.

Growing up, Tappen played both baseball and basketball. She also played golf, tennis, and ran cross country. Eventually, she ended up attending Rutgers University on academic and athletic scholarships.
Her broadcasting career began in college when she joined WJAR in Providence, R.I., an affiliate of College Sports Television. There, she served as a weekend anchor and a weekday sports reporter. She joined the NHL Network later in 2011, hosting NHL Tonight.
In addition to that, she spent five seasons with the New England Sports Network, where she was the lead host for Boston Bruins games. She also reported on the New England Patriots, Boston Red Sox, and Boston Celtics. She later moved to NBC in the summer for 2014.
Since joining NBC, she’s worked on coverage for Notre Dame football, and most notably, Football Night in America. She’s hosted or reported on a plethora of events, including the Olympics, the Super Bowl, NFL Kickoff, the Stanley Cup Playoffs, and The Open Championship.
In addition to her broadcasting career, she was honored with the “Woman of Inspiration” award by the Boston, Mass., chapter of WISE. In addition, her sports feature reporting has also been nominated for two Boston/New England Emmy Awards by the National Academy of Television Arts and Sciences. Tappen also earned an Associated Press award in 2006 for her sports feature “Swim Meet.”
She’s also a board member on the Marine Raider Foundation and volunteers for the Guide Dog Foundation as an Ambassador for America’s VetDogs.
