The Minnesota Vikings traveled to Cleveland during training camp for two joint practices with the Browns in advance of their preseason game together. In so doing, they endured a scare when one of their top playmakers tumbled to the ground and then was carted off the field.
Second-year wide receiver Jordan Addison, who led the Vikings with 10 touchdowns in 2023, landed awkwardly on a defender’s foot after he jumped to secure a Sam Darnold pass. Trainers worked on Addison on the field before taking him off for more extensive evaluation and treatment.
The injury came only hours after it was confirmed the Vikings had lost their first-round rookie quarterback, J.J. McCarthy, for the season due to a torn meniscus that required surgery.
With Addison, howevery, there was optimism at the time that the Vikings avoided something significant.
What Is the Latest on Jordan Addison’s Injury?
Addison has been sidelined since the injury occurred on Aug. 14.
According to Vikings head coach Kevin O’Connell on Wednesday, there is reason for optimism that Addison will be on the field this weekend when the Vikings play the New York Giants.
Vikings HC Kevin O’Connell says WR Jordan Addison “is in a good spot” and said “I feel pretty good about him” for the game. Said WR Jalen Nailor is progressing well, too, from an ankle injury suffered in practice.

Addison was a limited participant in practice on Wednesday, per the Vikings’ Week 1 injury report. The only other player on the report for the Vikings was fellow wide receiver Jalen Nailor, who was also listed as a limited participant.
Kyle Soppe’s Fantasy Outlook for Addison
Addison scored 10 times on 108 targets as a rookie, a profile that would have pointed to regression if nothing had changed.
With seemingly everything changing (from the stability of the running game to his starting quarterback and now his health), you’re really walking a thin line to rely on the USC product in any capacity to open this season.
The ankle injury is seemingly in his past, but any lingering issue could sap him of the upside he still has access to (his average touchdown length of 29.6 yards last season).
Addison’s pedigree makes him roster-worthy, but with the understanding that he is a ways away from lineup consideration.
