Jimmy Johnson Net Worth: How Much Has the Cowboys Legend Made

Jimmy Johnson is one of the NFL's greatest head coaches. That, on top of his lengthy television career, has brought in a lot of money. What is his net worth?

Jimmy Johnson is one of the NFL‘s greatest head coaches. He earned that title even though he coached just 10 seasons in the league.

A big reason why was his success with the Dallas Cowboys. Thanks to his success and now his television career, he has made a lot of money. Just how much has he made?

What Is Jimmy Johnson’s Net Worth?

Johnson was born on July 16, 1943, meaning he is 80 years old. It is estimated that his net worth is roughly $45 million. He made the majority of his money not just in his coaching career but also in his lengthy television career.

It didn’t take long for Johnson to meet greatness, as he was classmates with Rock and Roll Hall of Famer Janis Joplin. The two attended Thomas Jefferson High School, now known as Memorial High School, in Port Arthur, Texas.

Johnson went on to play college football at the University of Arkansas from 1962-1964, where he was a star defensive lineman. He was named to the Razorbacks’ All-Decade team of the 1960s and was later inducted into Arkansas State’s Athletic Hall of Fame as well as the university’s Hall of Fame. He was All-Southwest Conference in 1964.

Johnson’s coaching career began immediately after the end of his playing career. He was an assistant coach from 1965-1969 before receiving the defensive line coaching job at Oklahoma from 1970-1972. He’d then return to Arkansas as the defensive coordinator from 1973-1976 before heading to Pittsburgh, where he was the assistant head coach.

Johnson then spent the next nine years as a head coach, leading both Oklahoma State and Miami (FL) from 1979-1988. His legacy was most notably with Miami, though, where he was from 1984 to 1988. As Miami’s head coach, he led the team to a national championship in 1987 and was Walter Camp Coach of the Year in 1986.

Johnson’s NFL coaching career began with the Cowboys, where he reunited with former teammate and current Cowboys owner Jerry Jones. The two were teammates at Arkansas, which was a key factor in Jones making Johnson the Cowboys’ second-ever head coach, succeeding Tom Landry.

Johnson spent five seasons with the Cowboys, winning two Super Bowls (XXVII, XXVIII) and AP NFL Coach of the Year once. He had a 44-36 regular-season record with Dallas and a 7-1 record in the postseason.

Johnson then spent the remaining five seasons of his coaching career with the Miami Dolphins, where he was succeeding Don Shula. However, his tenure was disappointing, resulting in just a 36-28 record, including going 2-3 in the postseason. He retired from coaching in 2000

After leaving the Dolphins, Johnson became a TV studio analyst for FOX Sports, where he still is today. He had previously joined FOX between his tenures with the Cowboys and Dolphins. He is currently an on-air staff member of FOX NFL Sunday. On top of FOX, Johnson has done a handful of endorsement deals, also adding to his earnings.

Following his successful career, with a plethora of earnings, Johnson was inducted into the Pro Football Hall of Fame in 2020.
