Jets Sign Randall Cobb: Watch the 5 Best Aaron Rodgers to Cobb Touchdowns

After the New York Jets signed wide receiver Randall Cobb, we break down the five best touchdowns from Jets quarterback Aaron Rodgers to Cobb.

The New York Jets signed wide receiver Randall Cobb on Wednesday, marking yet another former Green Bay Packer to join the franchise this offseason. In addition to quarterback Aaron Rodgers and Cobb, the Jets also brought in offensive coordinator Nathaniel Hackett and wide receiver Allen Lazard. ESPN had previously reported that Rodgers requested to be surrounded by his favorite Packers before joining the Jets.

Considering that Rodgers’ 534 completions to Cobb is the second most he has with any player, it’s understandable why the two would want to continue their career together. Cobb has 47 touchdowns from Rodgers, and we’re diving into the five best throughout their decade together.

5 Best Aaron Rodgers to Randall Cobb Touchdowns

5) Cobb’s First TD After Returning to Green Bay (Week 4, 2021)

Although Cobb had minimal success in the two years with Green Bay after Rodgers requested that the team bring him back, his first touchdown with the team was a special moment. The play wasn’t nearly as over-the-top as some of Cobb’s other highlights, but there was something fitting about Rodgers lasering a pass to Cobb on 3rd-and-10, then Cobb taking the pass to the house.

Clearly a security blanket for Rodgers, Cobb rewarded the perfect pass with the determination and burst needed to immediately turn upfield and bust into the end zone. The Packers ended up winning 27-17 against Pittsburgh.

4) One-Handed 18-Yard Catch Against Chicago Bears (Week 10, 2014)

There wasn’t a more peak performance for Rodgers and a better season for Cobb than the magic they made in 2014. Coming off a bye week, Rodgers eviscerated the Chicago Bears, throwing six touchdowns in the first half alone. The final TD was a magnificent 18-yard, one-handed catch by Cobb.

Cobb was in the midst of his only season with at least 81 receptions and 955 yards. He set career-highs with 91 catches, 1,287 yards, and 12 touchdowns. Though he only caught four passes for 72 yards in this matchup, Cobb’s touchdown couldn’t have been more spectacular.

Rodgers, on 3rd-and-10, feathered a pass over the top of the defense, allowing Cobb to have space to stretch out with one arm and haul the lob into his chest.

3) 42-Yard Hail Mary Against New York Giants (NFC Wild Card, 2017)

In what became a dominant win thanks to a 24-7 second-half advantage, the Packers saw Rodgers’ and Cobb’s brilliance culminate in a stunning performance in the NFC Wild Card Round. Rodgers totaled 362 yards and four touchdowns on 25 completions, while Cobb caught five passes for 116 yards and three scores. But it was one play in particular that defined the game.

On the final play before halftime, Rodgers threw a Hail Mary to the back of the end zone on 4th-and-2. Rodgers had a clean pocket but loaded up to buy time for his receivers to congregate into a circle. Cobb, not even needing to leap, hauled the pass right into his lap as his feet comfortably stayed in bounds.

2) 75-Yard Touchdown To Beat Chicago Bears (Week 1, 2018)

Even in Cobb’s final season of his first stint in Green Bay, he continued to torture the Bears. In a game where Mitchell Trubisky had only 171 passing yards, four sacks, and two fumbles, and DeShone Kizer threw seven passes after Rodgers left the game for a brief period, the play of the game came with only 2:29 left on the clock.

With Chicago up 23-17 and the Packers facing a 3rd-and-10, Rodgers took the play clock down to three seconds before calling for the snap. Rodgers bought time in a clean pocket before rifling a pass to Cobb that was completed at the first-down marker. However, Bears’ defender Eddie Jackson fell down trying to break up the pass.

Cobb found a ton of green space until three Chicago defenders offered wimpy tackle attempts after their pursuit. Green Bay prevailed with a 24-23 win thanks to the touchdown.

1) 48-Yard TD To Beat Chicago Bears (Week 17, 2013)

The top touchdown between Rodgers and Cobb is a tough one to beat. In a moment with everything on the line, both players read the situation perfectly.

On 4th-and-8, with 46 seconds remaining and down one point, the Bears brought the house with seven rushers. With only four defenders left for four receivers, all it took was one misstep, and Cobb found himself wide open up the seam. The slot defender mistakenly defended the flat where the first-down marker was, and Cobb streaked upfield into space.

Rodgers benefited from a perfect chip block by fullback John Kuhn, giving him enough room to break outside of the pocket and release a downfield pass. It was a dagger to the Bears’ efforts and a perfect example of chemistry.
