Anytime Jerry Jones is in front of a microphone, it’s sure to provide some intrigue. Add sports personality and notorious Dallas Cowboys fan instigator Stephen A. Smith to the mix, and it’s sure to draw quite a few eyes.
Such was the case on Wednesday, as the two sat together and hashed out topics ranging from Dak Prescott and CeeDee Lamb to Jones’ tenure and longevity as the Cowboys’ owner. We analyzed and discussed some of the key takeaways from the hour-long sit-down.
Jerry Jones Opens Up About Dak Prescott’s Future
You knew it wouldn’t be long before Smith asked Jones about the hottest-button topic in Dallas these days. With the ongoing saga regarding Prescott’s future in Dallas, Jones gets surprisingly candid about it all.
Cowboys Jerry Jones on negotiations with Dak Prescott:
"…we have the challenge of not only recouping what we have spent on him over the last four years, we’ve gotta add that to what we’re gonna be paying him for the future." #DallasCowboys

“…we have the challenge of not only recouping what we have spent on him over the last four years, we’ve gotta add that to what we’re gonna be paying him for the future.
“We gotta ask ourselves, can we have the kind of success Dak deserves, we deserve, his teammates deserve, our fans deserve. Can we do that and get in the range to afford Dak? I think we can.”

Jones explains — in a way only he can — as the end result appears to be that the Cowboys hope and want Prescott around for the future, but it’s going to take a bit more work to get it done.
“When you look at the prospects of the likelihood of him over the next five years knocking on that door, I like those odds.”
The latest news from DLLS’ Clarence Hill Jr. states that an agreement is much closer than some may seem to realize.
“…There is an effort to get something done before Sunday’s season opener against the Cleveland Browns. And, per a source with direct knowledge of the negotiations, progress has been made during talks with Prescott and the Cowboys, and a deal is closer than it has been.”
It remains to be seen just how it will all shake out, but with Jones alluding to a future with Prescott in the fold and Hill’s latest report outlining that it’s never been closer to being done, signs are pointing up for things to be settled ahead of Dallas’ Week 1 matchup with Cleveland.
Jones Gives His Thoughts Regarding CeeDee Lamb Deal
From discussing becoming America’s Team to getting a deal done with Lamb that he felt confident about all along, Jones was an open book on Wednesday for Smith while discussing various topics.

“You clearly didn’t have any doubts about CeeDee Lamb. He’s clearly one of the best wide receivers in the world,” Smith starts his question. “…It took you practically all summer and all offseason to make the deal happen. Why was that?” he continued.
“We’re questioning whether or not I had the same evaluation of CeeDee Lamb because I was a little slow in people’s opinion about getting him in on paper,” Jones started.
“When he got on paper, did you see how much went on paper? Now the same guy that was slow is the one that wrote that number on that paper and signed it.”
In his own unique way, Jones was quick to point out that although the negotiations were long and drawn out, there wasn’t much question about Lamb’s worth and that the deal agreed upon was ultimately his decision.
Now Lamb is the second-highest-paid wide receiver in the NFL, putting the contract saga behind them, and allowing for Jones and Co. to focus on the season and perhaps locking up Lamb’s teammate and quarterback next.
