Jacksonville Jaguars 2024 NFL Mock Draft: Nate Wiggins Locks Down Receivers in Duval

After a brutal finish to 2023, the Jacksonville Jaguars seek to rebound in 2024. How do they attack this 2024 NFL Draft to kick off a pivotal season in Duval?

The Jacksonville Jaguars collapsed at the end of 2023, falling from the No. 1 seed in the AFC to out of the playoffs over the last half of the season. The team fired much of its staff, including the defensive coordinator, and is shifting priorities while continuing to build around quarterback Trevor Lawrence.

How do they attack this 2024 NFL Mock Draft to get back to the playoffs and continue to win with Lawrence under center?

Jacksonville Jaguars 7-Round Mock Draft

Round 1, Pick 17: Nate Wiggins, CB, Clemson

Jacksonville has already begun retooling its secondary to tailor their personnel to new defensive coordinator Ryan Nielsen’s scheme, and they’ve signaled what kind of cornerback they want.

There’s not a better fit for what the Jaguars are looking for there (unless Terrion Arnold or Quinyon Mitchell fall here) than Nate Wiggins, whose athleticism and competitiveness make him a perfect fit.

Round 2, Pick 48: Xavier Legette, WR, South Carolina

Assuming the team opts to bring back Calvin Ridley and subsequently cuts Zay Jones, the Jaguars will need to add another boundary target they can trust to consistently win contested targets — something Xavier Legette is routinely capable of doing.

Round 3, Pick 96: Brandon Coleman, OL, TCU

The Jaguars have future needs at both tackle (Cam Robinson) and guard (Brandon Scherff). Fortunately, Brandon Coleman has played both spots well in his career and can grow into a capable NFL starter at either position while on his rookie contract.

Round 4, Pick 113: Mekhi Wingo, DT, LSU

Jacksonville has to continue adding to its defensive line room, especially after cutting Foley Fatukasi. They have repeatedly emphasized wanting to get better at stopping the run.  Mekhi Wingo has plenty of power to boast and can collapse lanes, but he also offers juice as a pass rusher.

Round 4, Pick 115: Jarrian Jones, CB, Florida State

It wouldn’t surprise me to see Jacksonville double-dip into this cornerback class to find a starting outside corner and then add a nickel. Antonio Johnson’s likely sticking to safety full-time in their new scheme, so they’ll need to find a capable nickel in man coverage — something Jarrian Jones handled with aplomb in college.

Round 5, Pick 152: Cedric Johnson, EDGE, Ole Miss

I’m assuming the Jaguars get a deal done with Josh Allen, making EDGE less of a priority, but they do need to add to their depth. Cedric Johnson is a capable pass rusher and run defender in sub-packages and can let Jacksonville rotate its pass rush room to keep players fresh.

Round 6, Pick 192: Myles Murphy, DT, North Carolina

Jacksonville might be banking on DaVon Hamilton rebounding from a terrifying back injury in 2023, but they would be wise to continue bolstering their depth up front. Myles Murphy is a power rusher who can hold his own at the point of attack as well.

Round 6, Pick 212: Hunter Nourzad, OC, Penn State

Even if the Jaguars bring in a vet center to “compete” with Luke Fortner, they need to look for a long-term solution. Hunter Nourzad must continue developing his recognition and footwork, but he has the power and athleticism to stick in Jacksonville’s run game.

Round 7, Pick 236: Tayvion Robinson, WR, Kentucky

Adding another explosive slot weapon is never a bad option, especially when the Jaguars need to keep adding to their talent pool.

Tayvion Robinson had a down year in 2023 compared to his 2022, but he’s a smooth route-runner who can hit at every level of the field and do some damage after the catch.
