Will Justin Fields Take Snaps Against the Detroit Lions?

Fields will play against the Lions on Saturday, having had both good and bad days in the previous matchups.

In Week 1, Fields was seen making impressive plays as he completed five of six passes for 67 yards but ended up backpedaling on his progress as he fumbled twice throughout the game, leaving a bad taste in head coach Mike Tomlin’s mouth.

After the first preseason game, coach Tomlin said that while Fields did a few nice things the mistakes negated the good stuff, reaffirming that the former Ohio State star had some ball security issues to sort.

During the clash against the Bills, both Steelers quarterbacks struggled to convert explosive plays into scores. Wilson played for five series, completing eight of 10 passes for 47 yards. Fields replaced him, going 11-of-17 on his passes and notching 92 yards.

Both quarterbacks’ performances were underwhelming, resulting in a 9-3 loss in Week 2 of the preseason. However, both will have one more chance to prove their worth and showcase their readiness for the matchup against the Atlanta Falcons at Mercedes-Benz Stadium on Sept. 8.

Former Super Bowl Champion James Jones Makes His Starting QB Pick for the Steelers

The Wilson vs. Fields debate has been under the spotlight since they have cohabited the Steelers roster. While it is pretty clear that Wilson will be taking the starting role, Fields might get a chance if Wilson stumbles or Fields proves it in practice.

Taking part in the conversation, veteran Super Bowl champ James Jones revealed that Wilson is the clear choice for him as the Steelers’ starting quarterback ahead of the regular season.

He said that Wilson’s job is his to lose, so unless he performs like he did against the Bills and Fields has to step in to save the day, Wilson is the rightful heir to the starting quarterback position.

Fans would be interested to see how the third preseason game changes the dynamics in the Steelers’ quarterback room. At any rate, securing a win on Saturday will help create some momentum heading into the showdown vs. the Falcons in Week 1.
