Will Josh Allen Take Snaps Against the Pittsburgh Steelers?

Update Aug. 17, 2024: Due to the severe weather in Pittsburgh, Josh Allen will not play in the preseason game. Most of the team’s other starters will see time though.

Allen will get time in the Bills’ second preseason game as Sean McDermott’s team takes on the Steelers.

After a disappointing 33-6 blowout loss to the Chicago Bears in their preseason opener at Highmark Stadium, the Bills are looking for a bounce-back performance. Allen’s presence on the field is crucial to that goal.

Head coach McDermott announced that Allen and the other healthy starters will play for about a quarter and a half vs. the Steelers, aiming for much-needed improvement. Last week, Allen played just one quarter before being pulled, and the team struggled to find its rhythm.

Allen went 2-for-3 for 22 yards and a 7-yard scramble in the first preseason contest. Perhaps more concerning was the 4.7 yards per rush by the Bears.

Backup Mitch Trubisky garnered of the most action, tossing 18 passes and connecting on 10 of them for 82 yards.

“We have to have urgency in this building, it’s no doubt about it,” Allen said. “I feel like guys understand that urgency now, going back, looking on film.”

His words underline the team’s commitment to raising their performance to a “playoff-caliber” level, a standard McDermott has instilled over the past eight years.

“The leaders in our rooms are speaking up more, and we’ll be ready to go the next one,” Allen declared.

McDermott’s team will focus on correcting the mistakes from their opener and ensuring they’re ready for the regular season.

Allen, the undisputed leader of Bills Mafia, stressed the importance of “keeping the main thing the main thing,” which means prioritizing readiness for the games that truly matter.
