With a slew of NFL legacies entering the NFL Draft, it’s only fair to wonder whether players with the same surname are the sons of familiar stars of yesteryear. But it’s never a given. We’re investigating whether Colorado Buffaloes playmaker Jimmy Horn Jr. is related to former NFL star Joe Horn.

Is Jimmy Horn Jr. Related to Joe Horn?

Many college football fans are excited about Horn Jr., who is currently a wide receiver for the Buffaloes and is considered a rising star. Some have been curious about whether he is related to former NFL wide receiver Joe Horn, but there is no familial connection between the two.

Despite sharing the same last name, there is no evidence to suggest that they are blood relatives. Horn Jr.’s father, Jimmy Horn Sr., is not a professional athlete. However, both Horn Jr. and Horn possess similar athletic traits, such as good speed, jumping ability, strong hands, and the ability to make contested catches.

Joe Horn enjoyed a terrific NFL career, catching 603 passes for 8,744 yards and 58 touchdowns across 12 years. He played seven years in New Orleans, four seasons in Kansas City, and one final year in Atlanta. His career highlight was whipping a cell phone from his sock after scoring a touchdown in 2003.

While Horn Jr. is only 5’10” and 170 pounds, Horn was a menacing 6’1″ and 213 pounds. The current Buffaloes playmaker is a slot receiver who thrives more with speed and quickness compared to Horn’s impressive wingspan and dominant physicality.

Horn’s success may have inspired Horn Jr. in the NFL. It’s also important to remember that Horn Jr. is his own player and has the potential to have a great career regardless of his family tree.
