While 31 NFL teams prepare for the regular season with standard fanfare, since 2001, the HBO series “Hard Knocks” documents one team’s journey through the preseason and training camp. HBO selected the rebuilding Detroit Lions as the subject of the 2022 iteration of Hard Knocks. With the first episode airing tonight, here’s all the information you need to watch the first episode of Hard Knocks’ 18th season.

The 2022 season of Hard Knocks begins Tuesday night on HBO. The show will follow the Lions throughout the preseason. As a rebuilding team with some positive momentum at the end of last season, Detroit gives Hard Knocks producers plenty of storylines to focus on. QB Jared Goff lacks actual competition behind him, but can the former first overall draft pick turn things around in his seventh season?
While Goff’s performance may be under a microscope this year, the 2022 Hard Knocks season should provide a deeper glimpse into the young group of offensive playmakers the Lions have at their disposal. Between Detriot hoping to establish the run with RB D’Andre Swift and watching the maturation of a young WR corps comprised of Amon-Ra St. Brown, DJ Chark, and rookie Jameson Williams, this season of Hard Knocks is sure to be packed with some gripping action.
At the center of it all is second-year head coach Dan Campbell. Despite another rough season in Detroit, there’s a sense of optimism surrounding the Campbell. It’s a bit surprising as it took the Lions 13 weeks to earn Campbell’s first NFL victory. However, he remained unfazed, and to a point, he had a right to be.
Detroit lost six games by one possession and tied the Pittsburgh Steelers in Week 10. The standings could have looked much different at the end of Campbell’s first season in Detroit. He’ll look to adequately prepare his team to close out contests down the stretch in the 2022 Hard Knocks season. Here’s a look at when the rest of the episodes will be released this preseason.
