How Much is the Lombardi Trophy Worth? A Look at the Cost and Value of the Prize for the Winner of the Super Bowl

Every February, the football world — and the entire nation, based on the ratings — turns their attention to the Super Bowl. This game crowns the NFL’s newest champion. And to the victors go the spoils. In the NFL’s case, the “spoils” would be the coveted Lombardi Trophy, handed to the winners of the Super Bowl.

With its scarcity and size, the trophy is one of the most famous awards in sports. How much is the trophy worth?

What Is the Lombardi Trophy’s Value?

The Lombardi Trophy is the award the winner of each year’s Super Bowl receives. Its design has a regulation-sized football mounted in a kicking position on top of a pyramid. The trophy is made entirely out of sterling silver by Tiffany & Co. The first one was created in New Jersey, but since 2017, the trophy has been made in Rhode Island.

The cost to make a Lombardi Trophy is $50,000 in total, but the trophy is just $10,000. The process to make one takes four months and 72 hours. The final product is 20.75 inches tall (just under two feet) and weighs 107.3 ounces (just under seven pounds).

In the parade following the Tampa Bay Buccaneers Super Bowl LV win in the 2020-21 season, many were concerned quarterback Tom Brady would sink the trophy if he accidentally threw it overboard. However, it was proven by Randy Moss on NFL on ESPN that the trophy actually floats, as it is less dense than water.

While Brady never actually threw the trophy into the water, he did throw it from one boat to another. As it turns out, the move wasn’t as wild as everyone thought.

On top of the Lombardi Trophy being awarded to the team, every player will earn a mini replica of the trophy valued at about $1,500. Additionally, players receive Super Bowl rings made by Tiffany & Co., Balfour, and Jostens.

Super Bowl rings vary in value, but the Chiefs’ rings following Super Bowl LIV were estimated to be around $5 million. The rings featured a total of 10-and-a-half carats of gemstones, including 255 diamonds and 36 genuine rubies. No official price was ever released.

The trophy was given to the Green Bay Packers in 1967 after they defeated the Chiefs in Super Bowl I. It was initially inscribed with “World Professional Football Championship” but was officially renamed following the death of Packers head coach Vince Lombardi in September 1970.

As of 2025, 12 teams have never won a Super Bowl, with 16 having won multiple titles. The New England Patriots and Pittsburgh Steelers have the most Super Bowl wins in NFL history, with six each, followed by the Dallas Cowboys and 49ers (five each).
