C.J. Stroud, DeMeco Ryans, Stefon Diggs, and Nico Collins could all be helping to build the next super team in Houston. And with the picks they have in the 2025 NFL Draft, the Texans could continue to strengthen their ranks.

How Many Picks Do the Texans Have in the 2025 NFL Draft?

Currently, the Texans have six picks in the 2025 NFL Draft. They’ve retained their original selections in every round but Round 6. The Texans traded their 2025 sixth-round pick for former Steelers offensive lineman Kendrick Green.

The Texans were able to acquire an extra second-round pick earlier in the 2024 NFL Draft cycle when the Minnesota Vikings maneuvered to trade up into Round 1. However, that second-rounder was then rerouted to the Buffalo Bills in the deal that landed Diggs in Houston.

In each of the past three drafts, the Texans had nine picks. Thus, only having six would be a notable step down in the 2025 NFL Draft. Nevertheless, the team is much better off than it once was, so they’ll be able to weather this aberration fairly easily.

What Are the Texans’ Biggest Needs in 2025?

The Texans truly don’t have many glaring needs, but one likely need in 2025 will be cornerback — specifically boundary cornerback.

Houston has a stalwart starter in Derek Stingley Jr., and they drafted Kamari Lassiter to be their nickel defender. But Jeffrey Okudah likely profiles as just a competent stopgap, leaving a void opposite Stingley for the Texans to fill.

The Texans will also risk losing versatile veteran Jimmie Ward in free agency next offseason, leaving safety as a potential need alongside Jalen Pitre. On the defensive line, nose tackle Foley Fatukasi is on a one-year deal as well, leaving 0-tech on the radar.

On the offensive side of the ball, wide receiver still profiles as a minor need long-term. Collins, Diggs, and Tank Dell form one of the most fearsome WR trios in the league for 2024, but Diggs is set to be a free agent again after this season. So too is Robert Woods.

Houston may be in the market for new playmaking ability and new usage versatility at WR in the 2025 NFL Draft cycle, as a result.

Lastly, it would be prudent of the Texans to keep an eye on EDGE, even with the talent they have at the current moment. Jerry Hughes will be a free agent in 2025, and Danielle Hunter and Denico Autry are both set to follow him in 2026. Will Anderson Jr. is very good, but he may need more help in two years’ time.
