Harrison Butker’s Contract, Salary, Bonuses, and Net Worth

What is Harrison Butker's contract situation with the Chiefs, what is his salary cap number for 2023, and what options does Kansas City have?

After six years with the Kansas City Chiefs, how does Harrison Butker’s contract shape up? Having been a part of the Chiefs’ recent success, how much is Butker’s contract worth, what is his salary cap number set to be in 2023, and what options do the Chiefs have with his deal?

    Harrison Butker’s Contract Details

Butker’s contract with the Chiefs is a five-year extension worth $20.275 million. He signed the deal in 2019, and it runs through the end of the 2024 season. That would mean Butker could hit free agency in 2025. The deal contained $8.1 million fully guaranteed at signing and $9.1 million in total guarantees.

Butker received a $3.5 million signing bonus when he signed the contract. Ahead of the 2022 NFL season, Butker restructured his contract, converting $2.18 million in base salary into a signing bonus. That cleared $1.45 million in cap space for the 2022 NFL season.

In 2023, Butker is set to count for $5.105 million against the Chiefs’ salary. That is on pace to be the seventh-highest cap number for a kicker in 2023 as of Feb. 7. Butker’s cap hit is made up as follows:

    • Salary: $3.550 million
    • Roster Bonus: $76,471
    • Workout Bonus: $50,000
    • Signing Bonus (Prorated): $700,000
    • Restructure (Prorated): $728,796
    • 2023 Cap Number: $5.105 million

We saw Butker have his worst season as a pro in 2022, which could mean the Chiefs consider moving on from their kicker this offseason. If they were to make that decision, Butker would cost the Chiefs $2.158 million in dead money ($2.948 million in cap savings).

Kansas City could also designate Butker as a post-June 1 release, leaving a dead cap of $1.429 million, saving $3.676 million in cap space. Doing so would defer $728,796 in dead money to 2024. Releasing Butker this offseason would save the Chiefs over $7 million in cash over the next two years.

The Chiefs will have other options with Butker’s contract. They could ask their kicker to take a pay cut, or they could restructure the deal. It will be intriguing to see whether the Chiefs decide to go along those lines or simply look to find another option in 2023.

    Butker’s Net Worth

When it comes to Butker’s net worth, there is a wide range of numbers projected. Some place Butker’s net worth at around $1.5 million, while others have it in the $5 million region. A big part of that net worth comes from Butker’s career earnings. To this point, Butker has earned $14.444 million in cash. If he plays out the remainder of his current contract, Butker will have earned $21.984 million.
