Should I Draft Gus Edwards or J.K. Dobbins in Fantasy Football This Year?

Both coming from Baltimore to the Los Angeles Chargers, here are Gus Edwards and J.K. Dobbins' fantasy football outlooks for 2024. Who should you draft?

    Published on

Playing together for years out east and now taking their talents to the Los Angeles Chargers, who between Gus Edwards and J.K. Dobbins has the fantasy football upper hand?

We have an aging running back vs. a rusher coming off significant injury concerns. These concerns are why we both have low average draft positions (ADP), with Edwards sitting at No. 111 overall and Dobbins at No. 133. Both come after the dreaded RB dead zone, making these two dart throws later in drafts.

Who can help you win your fantasy football league? Let’s break down their fantasy outlooks to help you navigate the Los Angeles backfield.

2024 Fantasy Outlook for Gus Edwards

Edwards was incredible for fantasy football last season. He scored 13 touchdowns last year, the fifth-best in the NFL.

According to TruMedia, Edwards was the fifth-best running back in rushes per touchdown last season, producing a score every 15.23 carries in the league.

With these stats, are we shocked that Greg Roman called on his former Baltimore Ravens RB to come with him and help lead the Chargers’ ground attack?

Edwards is showing no sign of slowing down at age 29. He produced 2.71 yards after contact per rush, which was 35th best in the NFL, while ranking seventh in third-down rush conversion percentage at 71.4%.

2024 Fantasy Outlook for J.K. Dobbins

Dobbins is returning this season after missing last year due to an Achilles injury. It’s tough to truly research him, as he also suffered a season-ending injury the previous season.

The one thing that helps is his familiarity with Roman, the offensive coordinator, and their strength of schedule.

There was a lot of hype around Dobbins’s entry into the league, but now the risk is inching closer to the reward in his career.

Who Should I Draft in 2024?

Draft Edwards to your fantasy team.

Dobbins has had significant injuries for the last two seasons. Los Angeles would only lose $50,000 if it cut him at any point this season, making him a low-risk asset for the team.

Suppose he shows up as his former self, then great. However, the Chargers probably aren’t expecting that, or they wouldn’t have added Kimani Vidal in the draft and Edwards in free agency.

Edwards is their lead back, and at his ADP, you’ll want to add anyone who should see 12+ touches in a game.
