Tiki Barber advocates for a QB move to replace Daniel Jones, sparking debate among Giants fans. Will Big Blue go all in with a franchise-altering trade?

Tiki Barber just dropped a steaming hot take that’s heating up the New York Giants QB debate! The legendary RB has his eyes on a $275 million AFC QB as a potential replacement for Daniel Jones — and it’s got fans in splits.

Barber’s no stranger to bold opinions, but this one hits differently, especially with the Giants’ season teetering on chaos. Is it time for Big Blue to break the bank for a franchise-altering move? Barber does think so.

Tiki Barber Calls for Trevor Lawrence To Replace Daniel Jones

The three-time Pro Bowl RB Barber stirred the pot among Giants fans, and he’s swinging for the fences. The 49-year-old former NFL player wants to see a blockbuster move: New York acquiring Jacksonville Jaguars QB Trevor Lawrence to replace Jones. Barber didn’t mince words, suggesting the Giants should “figure out the package it’s going to take” to land Lawrence, a player he believes is brimming with untapped potential.

“He’s only 25 years old. He has the talent … but hasn’t had consistency in his coaching staff,” Barber said, pointing to Lawrence’s rocky relationship with Jaguars offensive coordinator Press Taylor as a hurdle holding the young star back.

Lawrence, currently on a massive five-year, $275 million deal, boasts all the traits of a franchise QB. The Giants, meanwhile, are in QB limbo. After releasing Jones, they’re left with zero signal callers under contract for 2025.

Although Lawrence is talented, he has struggled this season. According to Pro Football Network’s proprietary Quarterback+ metric, Lawrence is currently ranked as the 27 best performing QB in the league behind names like Joe Flacco and Aaron Rodgers. His D+ grade reflects his struggles this year.

“It seems incredibly unlikely we see Trevor Lawrence back in 2024. He is dealing with a nasty shoulder issue, and the Jaguars’ season is almost over at this point. However, he is the kind of fighter we might see on the field to prove a point alongside his teammates. We have seen in the last two weeks that the problem around the team is bigger than Lawrence, but he still has a lot to prove.

Lawrence has really struggled when under pressure this season and ranks 33rd converting on third downs. His other numbers are not that bad, but the cumulative impact is that this is on track to the second-worst season of his career, ahead of his rookie season.”

Barber’s pitch comes as the Giants weigh their options. With what will likely be a top-three pick in the 2025 NFL Draft, they could eye prospects like Shedeur Sanders or Quinn Ewers. But as Barber noted, betting on a rookie QB requires patience — a luxury the Giants might not have after a season in free fall.

The trade would be costly. Experts predict a package including the Giants’ 2026 first-round pick, along with multiple second- and third-rounders, might entice the Jaguars. Whether the Jags would move on from their franchise centerpiece, however, depends on their offseason direction.

For Giants fans, the idea of pairing a proven QB like Lawrence with a potential Brian Daboll-led revival is enticing. Barber’s bold take highlights the team’s urgency to stop spinning its wheels and start climbing back to relevance. The ball is in the Giants’ court … or front office.

Mark Schlereth Blasts Giants’ $160M Gamble on Jones After Split

NFL analyst Mark Schlereth isn’t holding back. He torched the Giants for their decision to hand Jones a massive $160 million contract, only to cut ties with the QB after another underwhelming season.

“They knew he couldn’t play, they knew he wasn’t making good decisions, and yet they still gave him $160 million,” Schlereth said on the “Stinkin Truth” podcast, calling it a “stupid risk” by the front office.

Jones’ release, reportedly requested by the QB himself, marks a bitter end to a partnership that failed to deliver. Despite showing flashes of potential, the former first-round pick struggled to justify his hefty price tag, leaving fans and analysts divided.

Giants co-owner John Mara, known for his calculated moves, agreed to part ways, signaling a fresh start. As Schlereth pointed out, the gamble on Jones seemed more like a hope for sudden superstardom than a sound investment.
