Former Cowboys Player Weighs In On Micah Parson-DeMarcus Lawrence Beef, Rips Owner Jerry Jones

Former NFL player and ex-Cowboy Chris Canty went on Get Up and criticized Jerry Jones, saying that he had to leave Dallas to win a Super Bowl.

Former Dallas Cowboys defensive end DeMarcus Lawrence made headlines with his comments on why he ended up leaving America’s Team and signing with the Seattle Seahawks.

Essentially, he said that he needed to leave Dallas if he wanted to win a Super Bowl, which, naturally, drew a ton of headlines. Notably, former teammate and current Cowboys star Micah Parsons took offense.

A former Cowboys player-turned-NFL-analyst Chris Canty went on ESPN to give his thoughts on the incident.

Chris Canty Rips Dallas Cowboys Owner Jerry Jones

This whole kerfuffle started on March 13 when DeMarcus Lawrence said that he left Dallas and introduced himself to the Seattle media. When asked why he left, his reason was simple. “I know for sure I’m not gonna win a Super Bowl there.”

He did also say first that Dallas is his home, but the second part of that statement is what took off. The full feud between Lawrence and Parsons is documented by PFSN, showing Parsons was not super thrilled with the comments from Lawrence, one could say.

Parsons, via a social media post, had this to say: “This what rejection and envy look like! This some clown s***.”

Then, in response, Lawrence said, “Calling me a clown won’t change the fact that I told the truth. Maybe if you spent less time tweeting and more time winning, I wouldn’t have left.”

While the back-and-forth between Lawrence and Parsons seemed to fizzle out, Canty, a former Cowboy, weighed in on the issue. Canty, who spent the 2005-2008 seasons with Dallas before winning a Super Bowl with the New York Giants in 2011, shared his thoughts during an appearance on ESPN.

Canty didn’t just critique the comments between Lawrence and Parsons, though. He took a direct shot at Cowboys owner Jerry Jones, who he believes is the main reason the team has failed to make it past the second round of the playoffs since 1996.

Canty also heavily criticized Jerry Jones. When answering the question of why the Cowboys have not been able to advance past even the second round of the NFL playoffs since 1996, he aimed at the owner.

“It’s because Jerry Jones, in his ever elusive chase for credit post Jimmy Johnson, has undermined the authority of the head coach at every single turn within that franchise, and that has been an impediment to creating the kind of culture that it takes in order to have success at the highest levels.

“And gee, I should know, I had to leave the Dallas Cowboys to win my damn championship.”

It’s clear that Canty sides with Lawrence, acknowledging the frustration that comes from years spent falling short, despite personal successes. We’ll see how this beef plays out on social media; the two won’t face each other in the regular season.
