The Top Wide Receivers To Start in Week 1
Chris Godwin, Tampa Bay Buccaneers (vs. WAS)
We don’t want to presume the Washington Commanders will pick up where they left off as being one of the worst pass defenses of all time. It’s also unwise to assume they are suddenly a defense to avoid.
The Commanders were the gift that kept on giving last season. They allowed the second-most fantasy points per game to wide receivers. Per TruMedia, they also allowed the third-most points per game to the slot.
After seeing the lowest slot rate of his career last season, Chris Godwin is returning to his primary slot spot this season.
Godwin should feast on a suspect Washington secondary in what could be a sneakily high-scoring game.
Andrei Iosivas, Cincinnati Bengals (vs. NE)
It’s time to see if all this preseason hype was justified.
Andre Iosivas was set to open the season as the Bengals’ primary slot receiver. Now, he might be their top option.
Ja’Marr Chase is questionable due to his lengthy absence from practice in search of a new contract. He’s probably going to play, but Chase said himself he’s not ready for a full workload.
Tee Higgins is listed as doubtful after tweaking his hamstring at Thursday’s practice. Doubtful players almost never play, and there is a 99% chance Higgins will not play either.
That leaves Iosivas in line for a pretty heavy workload.
The Bengals are one of the most pass-heavy teams in the NFL. Last season, despite starting Jake Browning for half the year, they had a 63% neutral game script pass rate, the third-highest rate in the league.
Joe Burrow is back and healthy. Even if he’s staring down a WR trio of Iosivas, Jermaine Burton, and Charlie Jones, I expect this team to throw.
Iosivas could be a serviceable WR3 in Week 1.
