Top Fantasy Kicker Streamers in Week 5

One quarter of a season is not enough of a sample to fully evaluate teams, but at least we have some information to work with heading into Week 5. Here are my top fantasy kicker streamers, all of whom are rostered in less than 50% of Yahoo leagues.

Greg Joseph, Minnesota Vikings (vs. CHI)

As much as I’d rather not recommend a kicker coming off a career game, Greg Joseph just makes too much sense. The man hit five field goals against the Saints in London. He scored 13 points in Week 1 and 18 points in Week 4. Weeks 2 and 3 were disasters, but in Week 3, he missed two field goals. While missed field goals are less than ideal, we care more about opportunity.

The Vikings are heavy home favorites this week against the Bears. That means a high probability of numerous scoring chances. Joseph is available in just over half of Yahoo leagues. He’s my top kicker streamer for Week 5.

Riley Patterson, Jacksonville Jaguars (vs. HOU)

You will likely see Riley Patterson projected quite low for Week 5. But I actually like him more than most available kickers this week.

The Jaguars’ offense is better than it gets credit for. In his first three games, Patterson hit seven field goals. Although he didn’t attempt one in Week 4, the Jaguars were also playing in a monsoon. Nevertheless, Patterson still hit all three of his extra points.

This week, the Jaguars return home to play the Texans where they are favorites to win. The Texans have allowed the fourth-most fantasy points to kickers through to start the season. Jacksonville should have no shortage of scoring opportunities.

Patterson is available in over 90% of Yahoo leagues. If you can’t get Joseph (or someone better), you should have no trouble scooping up Patterson this week.

Dustin Hopkins, Los Angeles Chargers (at CLE)

Given the Chargers’ status as road favorites against a mediocre Browns defense, I feel obligated to include Dustin Hopkins. I just don’t feel too excited about it.

The lesser DHop has hit five of his six field goals on the season and has made all of his extra points. However, the Chargers’ aggressiveness on fourth down limits Hopkins’ upside a bit. Still, they should be in scoring position plenty against the Browns.

Hopkins is available in just over half of Yahoo leagues. Despite him being more heavily rostered and projected higher than Patterson, I still like Patterson better this week. But if you want to go with the kicker on the better offense, Hopkins is a worthwhile streamer.

Wil Lutz, New Orleans Saints (vs. SEA)

Remember above when I said misses weren’t as important as opportunities? I still mean that, but sometimes a kicker just misses too much. Wil Lutz has missed half of his eight field-goal attempts on the season. That’s why he’s fourth on this list.

Nevertheless, Lutz has a great matchup against the Seahawks. He’s in an ideal spot where he’s on an offense that is good enough to move the ball but can struggle to finish drives. As a result, they attempt a lot of field goals.

The Seahawks entered Week 3 allowing the sixth-most fantasy points to kickers and have allowed no fewer than 27 points in any game this season. The Saints should have no trouble getting into scoring position. That means potential opportunities for Lutz to kick field goals.

Lutz is available in over 90% of Yahoo leagues. You shouldn’t need to resort to using him, but I just want you to know he’s viable if you need to go there.
