Daily fantasy football is a completely different beast than season-long. Succeeding in single-game DFS is even more of a challenge. We have a highly-anticipated “Sunday Night Football” game between the Dallas Cowboys and the San Francisco 49ers. Here are my top DFS picks for Week 8 SNF.

Week 8 Sunday Night DFS Showdown Picks

Week 8 DFS Pick: Captain George Kittle

The Sunday night game is a little tricky right now, as both Kittle and Deebo Samuel Sr. are questionable. I am much more confident Kittle plays but ultimately think both suit up. Regardless, we can adjust this lineup before kickoff if necessary.

Kittle is currently on pace for the best season of his career. His 16.9 fantasy points per game, if it holds, would be a career-high. He’s earned a 25.5% target share and has caught a touchdown in four of his six games played.

With all of the injuries to the 49ers’ skill position players, the one constant this season has been their elite tight end. Kittle has missed a game, but only one. Meanwhile, Samuel and Jauan Jennings have missed multiple contests, Christian McCaffrey hasn’t played yet, and Brandon Aiyuk is done for the season.

Kittle has always been much more involved as a pass-catcher when one of Samuel or Aiyuk is out. With Aiyuk no longer in the picture and Samuel possibly limited, if he plays at all, due to his recent bout with pneumonia, this should be another strong Kittle night.

Week 8 DFS Pick: Jordan Mason

Aside from Kittle, the only other 49er in this lineup is Mason. The Cowboys have been a disaster against the run this season. They’re allowing the fourth-most fantasy points per game to the position. Their rush defense success rate is 53.1%, the third worst in the league, and they’ve allowed a whopping 10 rushing scores already this season.

This may very well be Mason’s swan song. The 49ers are on bye in Week 9 and all signs point to McCaffrey returning in Week 10.

Mason is averaging an impressive 5.2 yards per carry and 14.5 fantasy points per game. Most importantly, the volume has been elite. His 82.4% opportunity share ranks third among all running backs.

The 49ers should win this game. But even if they don’t, it is unlikely to completely get away from them to the point where they’d need to abandon the run.

The story we are telling with this lineup is going to be the 49ers funneling touches through Mason and Kittle, with the Cowboys throwing to keep up.

Week 8 DFS Picks: Dak Prescott and CeeDee Lamb

This is our main stack for this lineup. The Cowboys have not been successful running the ball this season. As a result, they have one of the highest neutral game script pass rates in the league at 58% (sixth-highest). Meanwhile, the 49ers have a 52% neutral game script run rate, third in the league.

If we get the script right, with the 49ers running with Mason and the Cowboys passing with Prescott and Lamb, that bodes really well for our chances of success. The data supports it.

Prescott and Lamb haven’t quite been on the same level as they were last season. But if you recall, things really took a turn after the Cowboys’ bye in 2023. Lamb was the overall WR1 from that point forward. Prescott went from being dropped in many fantasy leagues to nearly the overall QB1.

The 49ers do have a good pass defense. They’ve allowed the 14th-fewest fantasy points per game to quarterbacks, but those aren’t impenetrable numbers. This is not the same juggernaut from last season.

If the Cowboys are to have any chance of winning this game, they need to throw. We are hoping for a classic Prescott-Lamb monster performance.

Week 8 DFS Pick: Brandon Aubrey

This is a difficult game to really put together a complete lineup that also has the requisite upside. Both of these teams mostly have high-end fantasy assets and not much else.

Aubrey is relatively inexpensive and, despite being a kicker, a high-end fantasy asset. His 13.7 fantasy points per game, by comparison, would rank as roughly a mid-WR2.

The Cowboys love to drive and stall. Mike McCarthy is also willing to send Aubrey out there without blinking for anything 60 yards or closer.

Hopefully, Aubrey has been getting in enough kicking work after he gets home from jury duty.

Week 8 DFS Pick: Deuce Vaughn

I’ve opted to go with a lineup-filler to allow for more high-end players rather than a complete six-man lineup where everyone can produce. Maybe we get lucky and Vaughn notches a couple of carries or returns a kick for a touchdown. But the real reason for this pick is just to make the lineup work.
