The Dallas Cowboys and the Kansas City Chiefs live on two different sides of the NFL. The Chiefs are in the AFC, while the Cowboys are in the NFC — meaning they only so often square off against each other.
The only way the two could meet in the postseason is in the Super Bowl. The Chiefs have certainly done their part on that end in recent years, but the Cowboys haven’t been to the big game since they last won it in January 1996. That said, Kansas City and Dallas are now on a collision course for a playoff-like game on one of the NFL’s biggest regular-season stages.
Ex-Chiefs QB Reacts to Cowboys’ 2025 Thanksgiving Opponent
The Chiefs and Cowboys are set to meet on Thanksgiving Day in 2025, according to an official NFL announcement on X posted on Wednesday, May 14. In a retweet, former Chiefs quarterback and current analyst Chase Daniel shared his take, calling Kansas City the new “America’s Team.”
The Chiefs are the new America’s Team.

“The Chiefs are the new America’s Team. Playing on Christmas & now on Thanksgiving…Ratings King. Dallas vs KC may draw 50M viewers,” Daniel posted.
In addition to facing the Cowboys on Thanksgiving, the Chiefs will also take on the Denver Broncos on Christmas Day. While Dallas has hosted Thanksgiving games for decades, 2025 brings them a matchup with what many are calling the Patriots of the 2020s.
Cowboys Given Much Tougher Thanksgiving Matchup Than in Past Seasons
The Cowboys have been Thanksgiving regulars for as long as most fans can remember, with only a few exceptions. Another pattern is that they tend to blow out the competition.
In 2023, the Cowboys crushed the Washington Commanders 45-10. In 2022, they beat the New York Giants 28-20. Likewise, they beat the Giants as hosts last season by a score of 27-20.
This year, though, the NFL has broken the pattern. Instead of handing them another NFC East foe, the league is giving the Cowboys Patrick Mahomes and the defending AFC champions.

Mahomes recently showed what he can do in a prime-time holiday game, leading the Chiefs to a 29-10 Christmas Day win over the Pittsburgh Steelers in 2024.
The Cowboys will have their hands full against Kansas City, who rarely miss when the lights are brightest. Dak Prescott already has one win over a future Hall of Famer in a high-stakes game — beating Tom Brady in what turned out to be Brady’s final game in the NFL.
Can Prescott do it again, this time against Brady’s spiritual successor?
