Easton Stick College Stats: A Look Back at the Chargers’ QB’s College Career

Before Los Angeles Chargers QB Easton Stick was playing on Sundays, he first had a successful college career at a powerhouse FCS school.

With the news that Los Angeles Chargers QB Justin Herbert’s broken finger required surgery, ending his 2023 season prematurely, it has now opened up an opportunity for backup QB Easton Stick to step in under center and show the NFL what he has.

Stick is a quarterback who enjoyed massive success at the collegiate level, and although he hasn’t had much of a chance to show his abilities at the NFL level, that’s now about to change.

Stick has seen very little NFL action since joining the league in 2020, and with this being his best chance to show that he belongs, there is a lot of intrigue around the young QB ahead of his first career start in Week 15.

A Look Back at Easton Stick’s College Career

Stick was born in Omaha, Nebraska, where he played high school football for Creighton Preparatory School. After his high school career, Stick went on to attend North Dakota State and play collegiate ball for the Bison.

NDSU is an institution at the FCS level and routinely produces quality teams, year after year. Famous alumni include former first-round draft picks, Carson Wentz and Trey Lance.

Stick got to NDSU in 2014 and did not see any action during his first season on campus. However, that all changed in 2015 when he made his first start of his collegiate career. That first season under center, Stick finished 8-0 on the season and tallied 1,144 passing yards and 13 touchdowns.

That was only just the start for Stick, as from 2015 on, he was the team’s starter until it was time to declare for the NFL Draft. He finished his career with a record of 49-3 and currently holds the record for most wins by a starting quarterback in FCS history. Stick and his team won four straight FCS titles during his tenure.

No one has won more at that level than Stick did, and he put up impressive numbers while doing so. He finished his career with 8,693 passing yards, 88 touchdown passes, and only 28 interceptions in his four years of action. He also added 2,523 rushing yards and a whopping 41 rushing touchdowns during that time.

Stick’s Quiet Start to NFL Career

After his impressive college career, Stick was drafted by the Chargers in the fifth round of the 2019 NFL Draft. He has only seen the field twice since entering the league, with the most recent coming in Week 14 in relief of Herbert.

Week 15’s Thursday Night Football clash against the Las Vegas Raiders presents the biggest opportunity of Stick’s career, as the NDSU product makes his first career NFL start.
