The Philadelphia Eagles collapsed against the Atlanta Falcons on Monday night, losing 22-21 in the final minute of the game. While many will point to a few plays in particular that caused the loss, it was a total failure from the head coach down to the players on the field.

    Eagles Snap Count Takeaways

    Eagles Offense

Philadelphia’s offensive line avoided any injuries, as they kept Jalen Hurts relatively clean in Week 2. Hurts was pressured on just six of his 35 dropbacks (17.1%), according to NFL Next Gen Stats, which is the second-lowest pressure rate that he’s faced in his career.

Saquon Barkley’s workload continues to increase, despite Eagles HC Nick Sirianni leaning on a committee at running back in recent years. After playing 80% of Philadelphia’s snaps in Week 1, that percentage increased to 90% against the Falcons.

Jahan Dotson played 24 more snaps in Week 2, as he attempted to fill the void left by A.J. Brown’s absence. Dotson was essentially invisible, though, hauling in just one reception for six yards despite an increased workload.

Grant Calcaterra played more snaps than any of Philadelphia’s options at WR3. The Eagles used a rotation to fill that role, as Britain Covey, Johnny Wilson, and Parris Campbell all played over 20% of Philadelphia’s offensive snaps.

After playing four offensive snaps in Week 1, rookie RB Will Shipley didn’t see the field on offense against Atlanta.

    Eagles Defense

Zack Baun and Nakobe Dean continue to dominate the workload at linebacker. Vic Fangio is clearly going with Baun and Dean as his starting LB duo, as no other player has stepped on the field to play the position through Philadelphia’s first two games.

Despite the return of Isaiah Rodgers, Avonte Maddox remained the team’s starting slot cornerback. Maddox played 55 snaps, with the Eagles opting to keep rookie Quinyon Mitchell on the outside.

Jalen Carter continues to shoulder a heavy workload, as he once again played 75% of Philadelphia’s defensive snaps. Nevertheless, the Eagles will need more from him since he has yet to record a single sack this season.

Bryce Huff was invisible once again, despite playing more snaps than he did in Week 1. Through his first two games with Philadelphia, Huff has somehow managed to record just one total tackle. The Eagles need him to step up as the team’s pass rush continues to struggle.

Thomas Booker IV was one of Philadelphia’s most impactful players against the Falcons, despite playing just nine snaps. It’s clear that Booker needs to receive more playing time, possibly allowing Carter to rest a bit more.

After playing just six snaps in his Eagles debut, rookie CB Cooper DeJean played just one snap against Atlanta. Week 2 felt like the perfect opportunity to increase DeJean’s workload in the slot, yet Fangio refused to do so.
