During the second quarter of their Week 16 battle with the 8-6 Houston Texans, the 9-5 Cleveland Browns had to attempt a two-point conversation after a touchdown as kicker Dustin Hopkins appeared to be injured.
Update 3:15 ET: Hopkins has officially been ruled out.Â
Dustin Hopkins Injury Update
After Joe Flacco hit Amari Cooper for a 75-yard score early in the second quarter, the Texans countered immediately with a Dameon Pierce 98-yard kick return for a score. Unfortunately for Cleveland, Hopkins appeared to injure his left hamstring on an attempted tackle during the play.
As a result, the Browns turned to rookie QB Dorian Thompson-Robinson to run in their two-point attempt, and punter Corey Bojorquez handled the ensuing kickoff.
The Browns have officially listed Hopkins as questionable to return. If he isn’t on the field for the second-half boot, expect more two-point attempts and Bojorquez kickoffs.
Hopkins has been steady for the Browns, nailing 33 of 36 field goals and 22 of 24 extra points this season. His 33 FGs and eight conversions from 50+ yards are team single-season records, and he also set the NFL record with five consecutive games of at least one make from 50 yards or longer.
