Dolphins Injury Update: Latest on RBs De’Von Achane, Raheem Mostert Ahead of TNF Showdown

The Miami Dolphins emerged with a Week 1 win over the Jacksonville Jaguars on Sunday, but a couple of their key offensive players are battling injuries entering a critical Thursday night showdown against the Buffalo Bills. Here is the latest on both Raheem Mostert and De’Von Achane’s injuries.

What is the Latest on Raheem Mostert and De’Von Achane?

UPDATE: De’Von Achane is active for Thursday Night Football

Achane is dealing with an ankle injury, while Mostert has a chest injury. Both players sat out of practice on Monday and Tuesday but Achane returned on Wednesday as a limited participant. Mostert, however, remained sidelined.

On Wednesday, the Dolphins officially ruled out Mostert and listed Achane as questionable ahead of Thursday Night Football. Mostert missed two games last season due to injury and Achane played in just 11 contests as well, meaning the two of them both have their share of durability concerns.

Both running backs finished Miami’s 20-17 win over Jacksonville and were each prominently involved in the offense. Achane took six carries for 24 yards and a touchdown on Sunday while adding seven catches for 76 yards. Mostert turned six carries into nine yards and hauled in two passes for 10 more.

The Dolphins have two other running backs — veteran Jeff Wilson Jr. and fourth-round rookie Jaylen Wright — on their 53-man roster. Wright was a healthy scratch in Week 1. Miami also has former Kansas City Chiefs RB Deneric Prince on its practice squad.

Fantasy Implications of Achane and Mostert’s Injuries

Achane and Mostert’s injuries are especially concerning because the Dolphins play the Bills on a short week Thursday night.

With Mostert now out, Wright would undoubtedly be active. However, I would pump the brakes on assuming he steps right into one of their roles. Wilson was the RB3 last week and handled five carries. He would be the presumptive starter and a desperation RB3 option. However, long-term, Wright is the better stash.
