The Detroit Lions will look quite different tonight when they face off against the Seattle Seahawks on “Monday Night Football.”

That’s because they are debuting their brand-new “Motor City Muscle” alternate uniforms. Here’s everything you need to know about the Lions’ alternate unis.

What Is the “Motor City Muscle” Uniform?

Over the offseason, the Lions unveiled their new uniforms, including these eye-popping alternates that immediately excited fans.

Lions president Rod Wood teased the release by saying that the Lions would have “one of the great uniforms” in the NFL, and the fan base certainly seems to agree.

The “Motor City Muscle” uniforms give the Lions a new all-black look that’s very different from their usual jerseys, pants, and helmets.

Here’s how the Lions’ website describes the new alternate uniforms.

“Heavily influenced by the grit and swagger our team brings to the field, this alternate uniform reintroduces black to the Lions on-field closet. A reinterpretation of a jersey worn in the late 1990’s/early 2000’s by former players including head coach Dan Campbell, it bears the Lions wordmark across the chest so whoever lines up across from us knows they’re in for a long day.

“The continued use of the blue trim inside the collar ensures that whether worn at Ford Field or on the road, a blue-collar mentality remains a constant. Inscribed with ‘Motor City,’ the collar also pays tribute to Detroit and the Ford Family’s iconic place in American history.”

As for the helmets, they are described as “matte metallic Honolulu Blue” with an “oil black facemask” and a “leaping Lion logo in black with silver accents,” and the “striping mirrors [the] primary helmet in black with silver accents.”

The Lions’ new jerseys have all been a hit, as their fresh new look offers reminders of the past. With one of the best color schemes in the NFL, Detroit made some changes to its home and away jerseys while also introducing a truly innovative all-black alternative look.

Prior to tonight’s game against Seattle, the Lions’ social media accounts encouraged fans to wear black for a blackout in the stands.

The Lions and Seahawks will face off on “Monday Night Football” tonight at 8:15 p.m. ET on ABC and ESPN+.
