Desmond Howard’s Advice to Travis Hunter

In a recent episode of The Travis Hunter Show, Hunter invited former Super Bowl MVP Desmond Howard to share his wisdom ahead of Hunter’s NFL journey. The conversation offered some valuable insights into the mindset and work ethic required to thrive in the league.

Howard didn’t hold back when it came to offering advice, starting with the importance of maintaining and improving on the habits that made the Colorado WR/CB successful in college.

“I would say make sure that you do everything that you were doing before, times 10 when you get to the NFL,” Howard explained. “You have your habits, you have things that have made you successful, that’s like your foundation… You have to build upon that at the next level.”

Howard also expressed the need to go above and beyond, particularly in areas like studying film. He said, “You have to do [study] it two times or five times as much like whatever you were doing; you want to double it, triple it, quadruple it at the next level.”

Howard Stresses Importance of Clear Communication for NFL Success

The most crucial advice, though, Howard says, is centered around clear communication, especially off the field. He used the example of how Coach Prime and Hunter might discuss defensive strategies in a way that a casual listener might not understand.

However, Howard feels a pro athlete should bring the communication “to a level where average Joe can understand what they’re talking about as far as this play is concerned or this defense is concerned.”

The importance of breaking things down plays an important role. The athletes not only play, they also have to express their views later in interviews. So, better communication helps to build a strong relationship with their fan base.

For Hunter, Howard’s insights will be key as he transitions to the NFL, ensuring that he’s not only physically but mentally prepared to handle the demands of professional football.
