Will Davante Adams Play Week 1? Latest News and Injury Update for the Raiders’ WR

Davante Adams has been dealing with a minor injury as training camp comes to a close. Should fantasy managers be worried about his playing status for Week 1?

A minor injury sidelined Las Vegas Raiders wide receiver Davante Adams for the final preseason game, but will that injury affect his chances of seeing the field for the regular-season opener at the Los Angeles Chargers on Sept. 8?

Here is what we know about Adams and his injury situation.

    Davante Adams Injury Update

Adams, who did not play in the preseason once again, suffered his undisclosed injury during the week following the Raiders’ second preseason game against the Dallas Cowboys.

Raiders head coach Antonio Pierce didn’t seem to indicate this was a serious injury of any kind, though he kept Adams out of the lineup for the final preseason game against the San Francisco 49ers.

Earlier in training camp, Adams missed a number of practices while his wife gave birth to their son. However, the missed practice time and preseason games do not seem to be a big deal for either Adams or Pierce.

Although currently questionable with his injury, it does not appear that Adams will miss any time in the regular season, at least not the season opener. Adams is also coming off a second straight season appearing in every game, the first time in his career he’s played in every game in consecutive seasons.

Adams’ Fantasy Outlook for Week 1

Although he is coming off a down season — by his standards — Adams still brings value to fantasy football managers. Last season, despite having his worst fantasy season since 2016, Adams still was ranked 16th in fantasy points per game (15.6).

A lot of his problems could be attributed to the revolving door at the quarterback position. The Raiders had three quarterbacks who started at least one game last season, and the one with the most starts for Las Vegas last season — Aidan O’Connell — could not beat out veteran offseason acquisition Gardner Minshew during training camp.

Minshew’s experience and talent should help Adams rebound from a somewhat unproductive season. Despite having more receptions last season (103) than in 2022 (100), Adams had only 1,144 receiving yards in 2023, compared with 1,516 yards the previous year.

Adams’ lack of touchdowns was the most disappointing aspect for fantasy managers last season. After leading the league in TD receptions in 2022 (14), Adams was held to just eight touchdown catches — his fewest since 2019.

While the addition of a veteran like Minshew could help improve his teammate’s touchdown catches, could last season be more of a sign that Adam’s career is beginning its final descent as he approaches 32 years old in late December?

Pro Football Network’s start/sit projection tool predicts that Adams will finish with 15.7 fantasy points in Week 1 vs. the Chargers and new head coach Jim Harbaugh.
