Daniel Jones Injury Update: Latest on the Giants QB Ahead of Week 7

Daniel Jones missed Week 6 while dealing with a neck injury. Will he play for the New York Giants on Sunday, or will Tyrod Taylor receive another start?

Daniel Jones suffered a neck injury in Week 5 and had to sit out the New York Giants‘ Week 6 loss to the Buffalo Bills. Will he be able to suit up against the Washington Commanders on Sunday? Or will Tyrod Taylor be under center again?

From the current NFL standings to team depth charts to coverage of every game in the 18-week NFL schedule, we have all the news from around the league to keep you up to speed!

    Daniel Jones Injury Update

Jones has been able to practice on a limited basis this week, but he still had not been cleared for contact as of Friday.

He’s officially been designated as questionable for Sunday’s game. However, Jones is not expected to suit up against the Commanders, according to NFL Network.

“He’s cleared to throw, so that’s what he’s going to do today is throw,” Daboll said Wednesday. “Whenever the doctors tell me he’s cleared … right now, he’s able to throw. So that’s what we’re going to do. He’ll do some individual (work). He could do some stuff on the (scout) team, but we’ll see where we’re at with that.”

Daboll remains convinced that Jones’ season is not over. But New York won’t put him back on the field until he’s fully healthy.

“He’s eager to come back, and he wants to play,” Daboll said. “But obviously, just like any player, if they’re not ready to play — based on the doctors’ evaluation — we won’t put him out there. But he’s getting better. That’s why we’re going to have him out here today.”

Jones did not practice leading up to the Giants-Bills game, so the fact that he’s even on the field on Wednesday is a positive sign. He told NBC on Sunday that his goal was to play against the Commanders in Week 7, but reporter Melissa Stark said Jones was still dealing with pain “on the left side of his neck” and has “symptoms into his left shoulder.”

Jones missed the final six games of the 2021 season with a neck injury, but that was considered more of a disk issue. Jones has suggested his current ailment differs from what he suffered two years ago.

    Fantasy Fallout From Jones’ Injury

Jones’ fantasy managers may want to start formulating a backup plan at the QB position for Week 7 because the Giants’ signal-caller still isn’t cleared for contact as he recovers from a neck injury.

If Jones is unavailable against the Commanders, Taylor would be in line for his second consecutive start. While Taylor wasn’t great against the Buffalo Bills last week, he did manage to throw for 200 yards against a stingy Buffalo defense.

Darius Slayton and Wan’Dale Robinson put up their best fantasy performances of the season with Taylor under center and could be in line for another busy game against a struggling Washington secondary.
