The Detroit Lions have gone from a longtime NFC North doormat to an upward-trending contender to snatch the conference title in the 2024 NFL season.

Lions head coach Dan Campbell has been a big part of that success.

What is Campbell’s net worth, and how much is he making as the leader of the Lions?

How Did Dan Campbell Get Here?

Taken by the New York Giants with the No. 79 pick, Campbell entered the NFL as a third-round draft selection in 1999. He played four seasons for the Giants before he signed with the Dallas Cowboys, where he played from 2003 to 2005.

After his time in Dallas, he spent another three years with Detroit before being released in 2009. Campbell signed with the New Orleans Saints in March 2009 but ultimately landed on IR and never played a down for them.

After his playing career, Campbell dove right into coaching, starting with an internship in 2010. Just 11 years after starting out as an intern, the Lions awarded Campbell his first NFL head coaching job in 2021.

How Much Did Campbell Earn While Playing?

According to Spotrac, Campbell earned $13,246,000 in his playing career. The richest contract he signed was a five-year, $11,375,000 contract with the Lions.

When he was with the Cowboys, Campbell inked a three-year deal worth more than $4.3 million. The lowest amount Campbell received for an NFL contract was a $563,000 deal he signed with the Giants in 2002.

How Much Is Campbell’s Net Worth Today?

Due to some NFL coaching contracts not always being made public, Campbell’s net worth is $10 million by estimation. First-time head coaches typically make between $3 million and $5 million in their initial deals.

Campbell’s and Lions general manager Brad Holmes’s contracts were extended in April 2024. Both deals take them through the 2027 season.

    Campbell’s Coaching History

Campbell started his coaching career with the Miami Dolphins in 2010 as an offensive intern. In 2011, the Dolphins promoted him to tight ends coach, where he stayed until 2015. After the Dolphins fired Joe Philbin following a 1-3 start to the season, they promoted Campbell to interim head coach. He had a 5-7 record the rest of the way.

In 2016, he was named New Orleans Saints assistant head coach and tight ends coach under Sean Payton.

The Lions hired Campbell as their head coach in January 2021, beating out then-San Francisco 49ers defensive coordinator Robert Saleh, then-Kansas City Chiefs offensive coordinator Eric Bieniemy, then-Tennessee Titans OC Arthur Smith, former NFL head coach Marvin Lewis, and then-Lions interim head coach Darrell Bevell.

Did Campbell Have Stats in the NFL?

Campbell saw one target in 12 games with the Giants as a rookie but finished his career in New York with 43 receptions for 369 yards and five touchdowns in 60 games (34 starts).

He went on to Dallas in the 2003 season, where he played and started all 16 games. He only played in three games in 2004 but appeared in all 16 contests again in 2005.

In 35 games (30 starts), Campbell recorded 25 receptions for 235 yards and two touchdowns. Campbell used this success to secure his most lucrative contract from Detroit and rewarded them with a career-high 308 receiving yards in 2006.

Unfortunately, injuries got the best of him over the next two seasons, and he only played in three games in 2007 and 2008 combined. Campbell signed with the Saints in 2009 after being released by the Lions, but he never played a snap due to injury.

Now, the football world knows him as the brash, fiery, confident head coach spearheading a new culture in the Motor City.
