Dallas Goedert Injury Update Week 7

Goedert suffered a hamstring injury against the Browns in the first quarter of Philadelphia’s Week 6 matchup. The 29-year-old tight end has an extensive injury history and hasn’t played an entire season since his rookie year in 2018.

Goedert “could be out a few weeks,” according to Jeff McLane of The Philadelphia Inquirer. Although several key offensive starters returned for the Eagles in Week 6, they’ll be without Goedert and starting left tackle Jordan Mailata for the next few weeks.

Both players missed practice all week and were officially declared out on Friday.

Following Goedert’s departure in Week 6, Grant Calcaterra stepped up admirably in his place. Although Jalen Hurts had been hesitant to target Calcaterra in recent years, that wasn’t the case against the Browns.

Calcaterra posted career highs last week, as he hauled in four receptions for 67 yards. If Goedert is forced to miss an extended period of time, Calcaterra will step in as TE1 in Philadelphia, while Jack Stoll will serve as TE2 and primarily play a blocking role.

Beyond Calcaterra and Stoll, it’ll be interesting to see what the Eagles will do at tight end. Philadelphia recently signed veteran C.J. Uzomah to the practice squad, who spent training camp with the Eagles. The team also opened the 21-day practice window for Albert Okwuegbunam on Wednesday as well.

    Fantasy Implications of Goedert’s Injury

Philadelphia’s offense was already one of the most concentrated units in the league — at least when all the pieces were healthy.

Goedert has fallen to fourth in line for targets after the Eagles signed running back Saquon Barkley this offseason. He can still be a vital component of Philadelphia’s offense, but as evidenced earlier this year, Goedert probably needs at least one of the club’s other weapons to be missing to put up game-breaking numbers.

With Goedert out in Week 7, you might be able to count on Calcaterra as a back-end TE2 in fantasy, especially given how poor TE production has been to begin this year. But Goedert’s absence might simply increase the target rates for Brown, Smith, and Barkley.
