Dallas Cowboys News: Jerry Jones Provides Update on Zack Martin Holdout

Dallas Cowboys owner Jerry Jones gives an update on the situation with Zack Martin, and it's not what Cowboys fans want to hear.

It is Day 4 of Zack Martin watch, and the Dallas Cowboys front office and All-Pro guard Martin are far from finding a resolution. In fact, there has been zero movement.

Jerry Jones speaks on Zack Martin situation

Cowboys owner Jerry Jones spoke to the media with an update on Martin’s holdout and where the front office stands with it.

“Nothing. He’ll come to camp when he comes to camp. There’s no resolution. There are a lot of consequences if he doesn’t. … He’s been at the top of the money all the way through, drafted high and got a lot of money, got a lot of money over the years. It’s just hard to get it all. The bottom line is, nothing needs to happen,” said Jones.

Jones also stated that the Cowboys need the money to pay guys like Micah Parsons.

“It’s about facts. We need the money to pay Parsons. We need the money to pay the players we want to pay in the future. It’s a fact,” said Jones.

Teammates in Support of Zack Martin’s Decision

This comes after multiple players have stated their support for Martin getting his payday — the most notable being Cowboys quarterback Dak Prescott.

When asked about the situation, Prescott said, “Pay the man.”

Offensive tackle Tyler Smith mentioned that Martin texted the offensive line to “set the tone” and that he would “be there soon.”

During that interview, Smith said that they are all in full support of Martin’s decision.

Meanwhile, when head coach Mike McCarthy spoke on the situation, he said, “My father always told me, and I think it’s true, you never talk about another man’s money, and most importantly, never talk about your own. It’s business, and Zack needs to focus on that. We all respect that. We don’t feel any differently about him. He’s always going to be a leader of our football team. But this is a business situation.”

What We Know About Martin While Holding Out From Training Camp

In the meantime, it’s still unknown where Martin is while he holds out. However, a video posted on OLine Mastermind’s Instagram story shows Martin getting some training in. It’s unknown if that was a recent video or not.

With Martin’s current deal, he will make $14 million with a base salary of $1.7 million and a restructured bonus of $11.8 million this season, ranking ninth in the NFL for what other guards’ annual salaries will be in 2023.
