Who Are the Cowboys’ Top Fantasy Players?
CeeDee Lamb Fantasy Outlook
CeeDee Lamb had another strong season for the Dallas Cowboys in 2024. Lamb caught 101 of 152 passes for 1,194 yards and six touchdowns, finishing as the WR7 in PPR points per game (17.6) with a minimum of eight games played. It was his third straight season with at least 17.0 fantasy points scored.
Lamb was able to reach that level in fantasy despite playing just nine games with Dak Prescott, thanks to a high-volume role and his continued usage in the slot (46.2% slot rate in 2024). The loss of Prescott forced him into the lowest average depth of target in his career (7.8) and capped his upside in fantasy.
Lamb’s ability to be a fantasy producer isn’t tied to Prescott, but he needs the veteran quarterback to be healthy to hit his ceiling. His floor is a top 10 fantasy receiver regardless, but we also learned in 2023 that his ceiling with a healthy Prescott is WR1 overall in fantasy. Adding George Pickens to the offense could also help by giving the Cowboys another weapon in the passing game that defenses need to respect. There are more than enough targets for both of them.
Lamb can justifiably be taken as the WR2 in fantasy drafts this season because he will be a top-10 scoring wide receiver regardless of whether Prescott is on the field.
George Pickens Fantasy Outlook
George Pickens struggled to find fantasy relevance during his three seasons with the Pittsburgh Steelers. In three seasons in Pittsburgh, he averaged just 97.7 targets, 58.0 receptions, 947 receiving yards, and 4.0 touchdowns. There were plenty of big plays (16.3 yards per reception in his career), but unfortunately, not enough passing volume or strong quarterback play to produce fantasy points. Pickens has never finished higher than the WR35 in PPR points per game.
That will all change in 2025. The Steelers traded Pickens to the Dallas Cowboys this offseason after acquiring DK Metcalf. Pickens will function as the secondary weapon in the passing attack to CeeDee Lamb, but even that should create a massive increase in the targets he sees. There is also no question that Dak Prescott is the most talented quarterback Pickens has ever played with.
New head coach Brian Schottenheimer was the head coach in Dallas for the last two seasons. During that time, the Cowboys averaged 625.5 passing attempts per season (36.7 per game). For comparison, the Steelers averaged 525.3 attempts (30.9 per game) during his tenure with the team.
Pickens’s strengths as a player (downfield targets and contested catches) pair perfectly with Prescott’s skillset. Combined with the Cowboys’ high-volume passing attack, that will finally give Pickens what he needs to finish as a WR2 in 2025. The only question is whether he can push into the WR1 range in his new surroundings.
Dak Prescott Fantasy Outlook
2024 was a year to forget for Dak Prescott. Prescott once again suffered a season-ending injury when he tore his hamstring in Week 9. Unfortunately for fantasy managers, his absence probably did them a favor in terms of meeting expectations. Prescott was the QB22 in fantasy points per game (14.6) when he got knocked out with the injury. It was the third time in five years that Prescott failed to play in more than 12 games.
Prescott completed just 64.7% of his passes for 1,978 yards, 11 touchdowns, and eight interceptions before getting injured. The offense struggled with two rookie offensive linemen at left tackle (Tyler Guyton) and center (Cooper Beebe) and a pass-catching group featuring CeeDee Lamb and little else.
The Cowboys made an effort to upgrade their offense this offseason, drafting guard Tyler Booker in the first round to replace retired Zack Martin and trading for wide receiver George Pickens to serve as a complement to Lamb. We have also seen Dak Prescott succeeding in new head coach Brian Schottenheimer’s offense (17.1 PPG over the last three seasons).
Pickens and Lamb are the most talented wide receiver group Prescott has had in years, but a questionable offensive line and his extensive injury history make it difficult to trust the veteran quarterback fully. That, combined with his lack of rushing upside, makes Prescott a good bet to be a QB2 in 2025.
